Summer Desserts

Strawberries, marinated for at least 2 hrs. in sugar and balsamico di modena, served on som e lightly sugared Mascarpone (with vanilla to taste) and a bit of fresh basil or mint. Dreamy, but stays with you... mascarpone is pretty much pure fat :(

What is it:
Kulfi search

We get it in our local Tesco\'s, but seeing as we have a large Asian population in Bolton, Tesco\'s stock \"ethnic\" foods stuffs.
Very handy for getting decent rice, herbs Soan Papdi etc.
You\'d have to look towards your local Indian supermarket for direct supplies, and even then it\'d be a case of \"Suck it and see\" for supply.
However there are several recipies for Kulfi in the Google search I put up, you could always give one of them a try.

Oh and in general terms it\'s pronounced something like \'Khoool-fee\' rather slowly and with slight preference on the KH.

If you can\'t find some in a store visit your local Indian food restaurant and they\'re bound to have it on the dessert menu.

Not normal gold leaf which has toxic material in it but there is an edible version made with pure gold. They use it on chocolate Oscars almost every year.

Cake or Death?
Mmmm, so I finally found a place in this town that carries Kulfi...woo hoo! I never thought mango and pistachio would go good together.

Just curious, does anyone know of something good to do with nectarines? Our tree is finally ready for picking.

All I can ever think when I see gourmet meal going for a year\'s salary (for some people) is \"Obscene\". We have the Mohegan Sun Casino in town here and I get irked with the people who pay $250 for a shot glass full of rare wine. Ah well. Back to something I do like:

Strawberry Gellato!

grab a pound of strawberries. Heat a cup and a half of water on the stove, and mix in a cup and a half of sugar and about a teaspoon of lemon juice. Let cool, then throw in to a food processor with the strawberries. Blend until smooth. some people add whipped cream after this is pureed (1.5 cups) but I don\'t. Stick in a large metal pan and place in the freezer. Every 15-20 minutes, open the freezer and scrape the bottom of the pan to seperate all the frozen particles. repeat until it\'s all frozen.

Slightly time intensive, but very good!
