super glue questions

I\'ve got a few questions on this topic. I\'ll list them seperate.

1) what is the best type of super glue to use. Mine seems to dry up quickly and a lot of the time is hard to get out of the bottle. I use gap filing type glue is this ok or not.

2) What special type if any do you use for glueing plastic parts to metal figures. Does it matter and is there any special tips or tricks I should use.

3) Is there special storing tips for glue to keep it fresher?

4) any other tips or tricks that you know of?

1)???

2) PIN THE MINI! Can\'t stress that enough. Man, those plastic bits onto metal body minis are a pain... come to think of it, so are tiny metal hands to metal wrists. Pin them, it\'s pretty self explanitory, but if you need it explained, just ask and you\'ll get an answer in no time. So, long story short... pin it, glue it, then fill the gap with putty (Green Stuff for example)

3) Put the cap back on???

4) Use GS to fill a gap and bond the two pieces together, then after it hardens... pop it off. That\'s right, pop it off. Then glue it back on. That Super Glue holds that GS to metal pretty well, no? Then pop the GS off again (this time the other side of the joint pops off) and glue that back on. This work pretty well for me.

Sorry i wasn\'t more help, but hopefully the convo will pick up. Super Glue eticate is something i lack as well:p

Well I had this problem with the GW bottle of super glue; first glue accumulated on the outside until i couldn\'t put the cap back on and then the glue just kept getting thicker until it dried up. I now use super glue gel, which comes out slower and comes in those small cheap tubes but has lasted a fairly long time. Hope this helps.

i never used it because its hard to find (like almost everything that has to do with modelling in germany) but the best super glue is claimed to be zap-a-gap, read much about it

oh yes and a laaaaaarge #2 on the pinning thing :)

The best type of superglue is a glue called zap a gap. I use the one that comes in a bottle with a green label (there are two versions of the stuff).

I find this glue provides a strong secure join with no problems at all.

Here\'s my advice:

1) Use a good brand, cheap superglue is cheap for a reason, its rubbish. Loctite in UK, selleys in Aus etc.

2) use superglue gel for most model glueing purposes (plastic to metal etc).

3) The liquid stuff can be very useful for certain tasks mainly when you want it to flow into a hard to reach area, its also better for bases (put model in slotta base, then put a drop of glue into the underside of the slotta).

hope this helps.

I live in the Netherlands and I use Bison Superglue Industrial quality(5 euro a bottle, the best quality glue one can get;)) I use the bottle-with-bristle version. I don\'t known if you known Tippex(correction fluid, not the pen version, but the bottle). It\'s the same stuff, but filled with superglue. The bristle doesn\'t harden , the bottle almost doesn\'t dry out and you have much more control over the glue and you don\'t mess up your hands so often:D

I find the tubes/containers for the loctite gule really annoying. You have to be very careful or else the nozzle blocks very easily.

Yes, thats true, which is why I always clean the tube tip before putting the lid back on, forgot to mention that :D

Something I use for gluing is called Liquid Nails (available at hardware stores in the US). It\'s a really strong rubber cement. What I like about it above superglue is that it has a very small amount of \'give\'. When putting arms, swords, stuff that hangs out, away from the body, it\'s bound to get whacked. Superglue, while being strong is also brittle. Stuff tends to snap off much easyer with a brittle glue. The Luquid Nails also fills gaps pretty good. Good luck.

In my experience, joining pewter to plastic (or anything else) is best achieved by drilling, pinning, supergluing(any kind...just to hold it in place) and then sealing with epoxy resin adhesive like Araldite or JB-Weld (applied using a paintbrush dipped in cellulose thinners). That\'s exacly how I prepair all my armatures.
