Superglue dries clear?!? What the f*ck was I thinking ?

Hi y'all

I think I just made the stupidest thing I've done in my painting life...
I was almost done with that sad girl, just the finishing touches, varnishing etc.

I wanted water effect for the little pool in front of her (See my wip thread.), so not having any resin, and since it's a realy small area, I tried with thin layers of pva glue which I tried in the past. Anyway, that was too long I wanted her finished tonight since I leave thursday for the weekend.

Then I looked at the plate I use for buiding material, glue deposit etc. and in a moment of sheer stupidity I taught " Wait a minute. Superglue dries clear, and fast"
Not only was that never gonna work (Superglue also destroys paint, duh.) I miscalculated, the thing totally overflowed and voila, ruined, ruined, ruined.

Okay it's fixable, the mini herself is pretty much safe, exept a spot on her knee, but I have to redo a whole lot of the base... and I was so happy with her, dammit.
I doubt I can totally recoup that mishap, and I will not get to submit her anyday soon :(

I'm so stupid...

Yikes! Get her off the base, fast, if you can. Superglue does this thing where it whitifies everything around it, especially if there's a quantity of glue. it's just a surface layer of white, but absolutely not something you want all over a mini. Good luck!

If the mini is metal, you can remove the superglue (and probably the paint job) with acetone. Use some cotton swabs and dab at the glue and you may be able to keep any paint removal to just the glue area. I'm not sure how acetone reacts on acrylics, but it does melt plastic so I imagine it won't be good.

+1
And superglue itself will turn a frosty white from humidity.

You can get superglue remover. I get it from the hobby shop where I buy my superglue. Foe quick water effects for small areas try 2 part epoxy glue, it dried clear. The one I use the most on my hobby bench is the 5 minute epoxy.

Problem with the 2 part epoxy is that it ages into a golden brown. Or, at least, the cheap stuff from Harbor Freight. Linky

Thanks for all the tips.

So update on this situation, luckily, I had varnished the mini prior to the incident, so it didn't get destroyed, means I won't have to restart the paintjob, it mostly pooled on the underside which is not really visible; I think with a couple touch-up and another layer of matte varnish it will be almost seamless. The worst damage is on the base, the pool area will have to be resculpted and the floor repainted.

What I learned from that ordeal is that I don't react well to self imposed deadlines, and that I should stop crafting when I'm too tired t take inteligent decisions, lol.
