Swamp bases

Hi Y\'all, I got a unit of vampire skelly riders coming up, and I want to do swamp bases for them. I might need a few input here.
I don\'t have water effect, and don\'t think it\'s necessary since it\'s not transluscent water I need.
I tought of going with the regular sand/glue texturing, but with less sand to leave areas of glue, then paint the basecoat very dark green to simulate still water, or soaked earth, then place rocks and bits of wood so they look like they are sticking out, painted with mold/verdigris.
Anything else ? I know I want some aquatic vegetation, maybe someone has tips on that...
Would it be better to sink the hooves a bit, or how to make splashing effect maybe ?
Anyway, any input on it would be nice^^

I think I can pull it out, just not sure how to simulate still water...

here is one i came up with, granted its more of a jungle base, but that could be fixed easily.

whenever im going to do a new base terrain type i like to google pics. search a bit, then post the real stuff and we can try to work out a good way to accomplish a nice version.

i found something from the \"early days\" that might be more like what you\'re looking for: vindicare on swamp base
not nearly as well perfected, but it had some different ideas (the roots etc).

Man I got to get that stuff...

Anyway, I wont need to go to such extreme since theyre only cavalry bases

In latest issue of WD (the UK one, don\'t know if you get the same articles) there is an article of one of the Eavy Metal painters called Kirsten something - She had used small glasspearls to make bubbles in swampy looking bases for some nurgle minis - looked pretty good

Envirotex Lite is awesome stuff. Dunno if you have that in Montreal, but there\'s certainly a comparable product.

If you\'re doing relatively shallow areas, Future Floor Finish works fine for water. I tried it after being disappointed by the shrinkage problems with Woodland Scenics Realistic Water. I saw the FFF recommended in a military modelling terrain book.

actually no - the water in both is just citadel PVC glue applied in layers. i experimented with WS\'s E-Z water effect with no succes - it was so hot it would melt the bases and it beaded a lot. glue works fine in thin layers.

Well, it\'s gonna be shallow and very dark so I guess anything that dryes to some transparency will do fine.

Don\'t forget the power of clear nail varnish - cheap for the amount you need, and will go on ina thick enough layer, and you can put colur in it, and you can paint under it, and and and (you get the point lol)

Floor finish, glue, nail varnish... I also have paint on varnish that I don\'t use much, I\'ll do some testing and come back.

I think I will go for the will-o-bog kind of swamp, like patches of turf with a few water holes, probably with reeds and stuff sticking out. I will have some of the horse sinking a bit and cover their underside with mud and dirt. Yeah, that\'ll be nice.

I\'ll post pics in the wip and probably post the final bases here, for future reference.

Yeah thanks funny, you saved me a bit of time here...
Overall I meant exactly something like the first pic... maybe a little more dry since there has to be horses credibly running on it.
I think a rotten stomp like the one on the fourth pic will be fun to do
Makes me think I have to put gross oozing stuff on the still water, was gonna forget that :idea::|~
