Swine Flu - boring as hell...

For the last week my family and I have been in self imposed quarantine with the dreaded Swine Flu. MY son (3) shook it off in a couple of days, my Wife (21-ish) has been worse hit but she\'s MUCH better, and I had what could be described as a mild dose (achy, head ache, runny nose, general lethargy. Not much different).

I am sick of being in the f$£@ing house, I can\'t even get any painting done (looking after my unwell little clan). Sitting with my son watching Disney films with my son is getting boring now.

So the morel of the story is, fear not the Swine Flu! The VAST majority of cases are minor and people get over it in a few days. A bit like \'normal\' flu really...

few cases around here - i would rather get it now before it mutates and turns its victimi into some giant mutant miss piggy.
btw does it annoy anyone else that they only confirm serious cases? nice way to keep the figures down isnt it!

Donga, you could sign up for one of these DVD postal club schemes (I think Channel 4 run one), they send you DVDs in the post next day with a prepaid envelope for their return. Would give you something new to watch. Might I recommend some Studio Ghibli, for such little people, probably Kiki\'s Delivery Service & My Neighbour Totoro (both certificate U if I remember correctly). Far superior to the teeth-grindingly cloying Disney fare.

B.

PS Get well soon!

Yep, except when you\'ve got a few other health problems and a damaged immune system.

Fran\'s been \"kicked out\" of work and told to work from home due to one of her colleagues having it.
Mind you having her tonsils out this week\'s made it really enjoyable as well.
Who\'d have though Co-Codamol could make her as sick as that.

Whats wrong with disney? Especially the ones with the songs...

Not a great deal for the first 15 times, after that they get a little tiresome.

Used to be a member of \'Love film\' sadly the postal service isn\'t fast enough for when you are unwell and near replacements now. We\'ve also burnt out our neighbours DVD collections (apart form the geezer 3 doors down who has a huge Kung-Fu and Asian cinema collection, not suitable for a 3 year old).

@Mike: Sorry to hear about Fran! Hope she\'s up to combat speed soon ;)

Actually the reason for that is more likely to be the fact that the containment has failed and that N1H1 is suspected to reach pandemic proportions some time this fall.

This means that roughly a third of us all will get the disease some time during the next 3-6 months.

With that perspective there really isn´t the \"need\" to document every single case any more.

true and also if people new how many cases there really are they would be a lot more panicked (no doubt media fuelled!) .
my sister in law works quite high up for some medical response company so she drip feeds us what we need to know!

The whole thing was blown SOOOO out of proportion that it is not even funny. I am sure a TV station or two manage to squeeze some rating increase out of it but other then this it is flu with high fever in the first two days. So you treat it like anything else with high fever - when you have it you avoid strenuous physical exercises and drink plenty of water :)

btw, 2 people out of 4 in my family likely had it at the beginning of outbreak in NYC. My son is in one of these closed-down school. Obviously, nobody tried to formally diagnose anything, but based on description/timing and location it fit.

:D Hang in there Fran... I had my tonsils out as a little kid, they tell you going in that you can have “all the ice cream you can eat”........ but afterwards, your throat hurts to much to swallow :(

Wouldn\'t Swine Flu be scarier if you actually turned into a pig!!

If that wouldn\'t get people washing their damn hands, and covering their mouths when they sneeze....NOTHING will!lollol

She is \"Hanging in \" but the Co-Codamol were a waste of time making her feel worse than coping with the pain.
Unfortunatly the \"quarintine\" period of her avoiding crowds for 10-14 days is going to be a bind.

Thank you Vike; my nightmares weren\'t nearly vivid enough...lol

We\'ve had a couple of cases of swine flu here in central Cali. The only people I know who were put out by this were the custodians at the school I\'m at. They each had to work an extra three hours a night sterilizing every desk on the campus.

Thankfully where I am, cases seem to be fairly low. Hope it\'ll stay like it for the next week as my Mum works in a school and doesn\'t break up till next week - would be just my luck to catch it from Mum :D

Sorry to hear that some of you and your better halves are suffering - can\'t be funny by any imagination.
