I am just starting out as an eldar player, and every time I play I get my ass kicked. Does anyone have any tactical advice?

I don\'t know much about the new book. If you post your army list w/ fixings I might be able to point out faults. Also who are you fighting? If it\'s the same kind of army you may just be facing the rock to your scissors.

The best thing to do is post your list so we can see what you\'re using. Also you may need to post what you\'re up against as Marines require different tactics to Dark Eldar, and so on.

I\'m still working out my army list. all I have is; a falcon w/ scatter laser; wraith lord w/ wraith sword and bright lance; and an avatar. I have played with howling banshees, dire avengers, gaurdians w/ starcannon, and jetbikes though. I always fight against space marines.

That\'s close, but not quite enough to work with. How many models do you have of each type? Are you shooting for ranged or a close combat game? Is this your first army? Are you well schooled in ALL the rules? You need to answer a few of these to help find your focus in the game.

My best advice is either mass numbers(tons of shots or hits), and/or AP<3/power weapons. Those usually won\'t win the game but they\'ll piss him off.

5 banshees, 5 avengers, 10 gaurdians, 3 jetbikes.

close combat is what I prefer

it is my first army

I am \"schooled in all the rules\"

does that help?

Ok, next question; how many points is all of this? What size battles have you been playing? If you\'re playing anything over 500 you\'re going to lose (yes I\'m counting the models listed above). If your friend agrees, proxy your units into other things and test out different unit types before you buy.

You\'re very thin on models...and eldar are squishy. To counter squishy: use a transport, covering terrain or have a lot of them/meatshield. Personally, I don\'t like the bikes. I just don\'t think they\'re worth the points, but something could have changed in the new book.

as I said before I\'m still working out my army list, the models mentioned before all belonged to the store, I used them in a beginner battle.

Banshees really need a transport in order to make them effective, otherwise they will never get into close combat, they will be a splattered smear on the table due to gunfire.

If you are playing Marines regularly get some Harlequins and tool the majority of the squad up with kisses to get rending attacks. They are extremely mobile and suprisingly tough to kill if used right. They will take practice to get good with though. I\'d suggest these dudes instead of Banshees any day to be honest.

Shining Spears are also very good against Marines as long as you get the charge in, but with their maneuverability that shouldn\'t be tough.

Basically you want to get as much in your force that is AP 3 or better, or ignores saves.

The Wraithlord and Avatar combo is a good one and should be used along with the Harlequins so that they gain fearlessness from the Avatar.

You could also stick in Eldrad to really make this group really devastating. You can use him to reposition troops at the start of the battle, so can move this elite block of killers to where they need to be. As they advance cast Fortune on the Avatar and Harlequins to keep em safe (veil and rerolled 5+ invulnerable save). Eldrad should hide like a coward behind the Avatar and Wraithlord to keep him safe, and once your units are in charge range he should start to storm units and vehicles to pin or spin them. It is a bit of a cheap tactic if you keep doing it, but effective (the team who won the 40k doubles tournament this year basically used this as their strategy).

Long and short of it, coming from a marine player, get lots of stuff to get nice and close and seperate meat from armour, otherwise youll get shot to bits.

Dont get shot at.

Always works for me anyway.

Get yourself some holofields and vectored engines on any falcons or fireprisms you take, it makes them silly hard to take out
