Taklon hair

Have any of you tried working with brushes made from taklon hair? I need some new brushes and was going to try them. Are they synthetic?

On a side note…

Have any of you noticed that Fantization.com has changed the site? It looks good except for the absence of pictures. Tonight I was there ordering a re stock of paints and new brushes. Then I went to the checkout and was about to pay when I notice something. They didn’t have the option for USPS. You had to use FedEx. Then I saw cost of shipping. A $110.00 order would cost $142.00 to ship.

Needless to say I had a mild heart attack. I almost authorized that order.

I\'m sure that taklon are synthetic but thats not 100% though.

Yup!

Synthetic crap.. spend a few bucks more on A Winsor & Newton Series 7 and you will love yourself

Hey since your in South Korea, I would think you would have access to a good model shop. Especially one for Tank models and Gundom stuff. Try looking in there for a nice Kolinski sable brush. Tamiya a leading Japanese model company has its own line of brushes which are quite nice.

Nope. There are only synthetics here. That is why I started ordering on line almost six years ago.

@ everyone: BTW, is this new shipping Fedex ony becoming a common thing with Americans companies? If so, I will not be getting anything for a few months.

Ive seen it a lot. Fed Ex ground is much cheaper than UPS right now. if you email most companies will make arrangement s to ship US mail though.

What size brushs you looking for?

I\'ve used \"golden taklon\" quite a bit (because I think the fur industry is inhumane and won\'t support it) and I have only very rarely had a brush curl.
I don\'t know what you all are going on about.

I\'ve never had a synthetic round not curl at the tip. In 20+ years. I\'ve had it happen during the first use (like minutes, literally)!

BTW, off-topic but do you wear leather Vince? Eat ham? How \'bout your chicken or egg preferences, free-range all the way?

vince did say his objection was to the fur industry, not animal products in general. I\'ve found it\'s the kind of thing where once you start thinking about it at all, everyone has to figure out where to draw their own personal line. I\'ve been a vegetarian for... I think it\'s 19 years this month. I still wear leather shoes, because for me a workable alternative is hard to find. (But unlike many women, I buy shoes as rarely as possible. ;-> ) I do get free-range eggs, but I also eat eggs in restaurants that I know aren\'t. I feed my cat and dog pet food with meat in it, although with a lot of work there are alternatives. And it probably makes me a big hypocrite and I do feel badly about it, but I use sable brushes as synthetics have never worked that well for me and painting is one of the few passions I\'ve ever had in life.
