whether someone is tallented, skilled, touched by god, etc... in their painting, is really all just symantics and speculation.

The fact is some people do learn quicker than others, some people can progress further than others, no matter how you describe the reason.

Oh, wait. I was just redundant.
Nevermind.

as we all... oh, wait, you were joking. :D

To be redundant, do you have to first be dundant?

Look at this way: It\'s like playing AD&D. Someone with Dexterity 16 will probably learn painting minis easier than someone with Dex 10. And unless that character finds the Magic Brush: +6 Dexterity, he\'ll probably never win a Demon. (But he\'ll slay one, arrrghh!!)

There\'s a +6 magic paintbrush???

Must have paintbrush!

...............................................
Real men like Vallejo 0 synthetic brushes
Real Roll players like Winsor Newton series 7 sable 10/0 brushes
Loonies like rag mops
Munchkins like whatever gives the most plusses.

That\'s nothing. You should see the dancing paintbrush. You paint a few strokes on the mini and then the paintbrush finishes the piece for you.

Depends on how you define talent. If you mean can you be taught to do something that requires dexterity/skill, absolutely. Some people are better at picking up this sort of thing than others and those with the greatest facility are usually thought of as gifted or talented but a great many things are within the grasp (so, no pun intended) of the average person if they put their mind to it.

What about regular talent?
Er...? :)

Hard work and discipline make a big difference too though. A hard working individual could surpass a more talented one who is lazy. On the other hand if two people both work just as hard, and one is more talented, the more talented one should outshie the less talented most of the time.
Excellent points, something a lot more of us should realise.
