Talking fluff.

I just started an Eldar army and have been reading the story-stuff (fluff for the non-initiated) included in the Codex and it got me to thinking. The Eldar are human-shaped, but they\'re also aeons older than the Imperium of Man, so would it not be more correct to say that humans are Eldar-shaped? And if so, might it have been that a farseer, perhaps Eldrad himself, saw the potential of humanity as a tool for the Eldar far into the future and gave them the last genetic push that moved them into an Eldar-like configuration and one that the Eldar knew was successful? This would mean that for all their posturing, the Eldar are right in claiming all of humanity as a tool to ensure their survival.

Well...

In a word, no.

Eldar aren\'t all that much older than humans in purely galactic terms. After all their civilization imploded just as humanity was dominating the stars at the end of the Golden Age.

The correlating physical shapes of the Eldar and humans can be explained in any of three ways:

1. The Eldar, humans, Orks and Tau were all at least partially engineered by the Old Ones who followed a similar template with each.

2. The bipedal, erect, binocular stance is evolutionarily superior with the parameters of roughly equivalent biospheres (oxygen/nitrogen, high water content atmosphere, varied flora and fauna).

3. They\'re Space Elves. Their shape is dicated by decades of wargaming and fantasy tradition. What did you expect?

My money\'s on number 3.

Rebuttal!

1. I can see this, because it\'s essentially what I\'ve already said simply drawn out further.

2. Taking the full range of Warhammer fluff into account, this one works. However, speaking in modern evolutionary terms, it\'s not neccesarily true. It happens to work here, but what\'s to stop a planet that\'s similar in enough ways as to be a sister planet of Earth developings an avian species, or a ground-crawling amphibian species that fill a similar role as humans on Earth? Besides, there\'s species here on Earth that beat us out biologically in certain areas. Are you familiar with the avian respiritory system?

3. Point ceded.

What did the guy say who saw the caption reading TALKING FLUFF say?
Holy cow, talking fluff. No? sorry;)

OLD FLUFF:No one has mentioned the ancient Slann. They were postulated to be the old ones back from the Rougue Trader days. They planted the eldar among others. Do you remember Zoats(big lizard centaur looking guys with 6 legs). By an old RT book on ebay- its full of great old pics and fluff.
(Yup, been there since the wayyy old days.:D)
Some of the new fluff says the Eldar were built by them to fight off the necrons millions of years ago.

also because generally everything is seen from the p.o.v. of the humans, we consider them to be human shaped not the other way round. even if they are older. anyway i agree with #3 most - bring on the space skaven!

Here is something droll- hey weren\'t eldar intially called space elves... in the old 1st chapter approved in fact they were- just go to stuff of legends to check it out. So yeah, in other words you can\'t expect muchlol I like #3

Many interesting points thrown up here,I wasn\'t aware that mankind may be a tool and all that! Sneaky Eldar! I\'m not going to be impressed if I find out my Grandma was a Slann/Zoat! lol;)

Merely conjecture on my part, some \"what if?\" and all that. I could see it happening, but my argument seems to have been defused.
