Tamiya Metal Primer vs Tamiya Fine Surface Primer for 28mm Resin Miniatures?

Which Primer would be best for some Forge World 28mm Resin Miniatures in-terms of primer adherence to the resin, and not obscuring details:

Tamiya Metal Primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer?

How about neither? There are numerous options that are cheaper than both.

I've used both on plastic minis and they perform similarly. If I had a choice I'd go with the fine surface primer but I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

hmm..forgeworld suggests on their own site, automotive primer; not even GW primer of which they are part of the company, so there must be a reason for that

I've been using Tamiya Fine Grey Primer for over 15 years now and always recommend this as a primer. I've sprayed metal, plastic and resin, never failed me yet.
Never had the fuzzies, sprayed it in the middle of winter on our balcony and the finish was perfect.
But ever artist has his opinions and favorites.

I was curious about this product. I have used Duplicolor sand-able primer in the past on plastic, but when I used it, it slightly obscured the detail even tho I was even and very careful about being light on the coats.

What is the method you use to prime your minis with this product?

I've never had any issues with it obscuring detail. I usually just mount the figure on a cork and lightly dust it from all different angles, trying not to ever spray it head on. You really don't need to cover the whole model with primer for the paint to stick.

I've used Halfords white automotive primer for most of my painting needs. It sticks well to resin mini's from what i've seen (i have a few Kraken Edition mini's in resin). Just make sure you give all the pieces a good scrub in cold, soapy water to get rid of the release agent. It's oilly and may affect the primer layer.
