so a few days ago i recieved the package from reaper minins from the us (im in germany).
today a letter from ups worldwide arrived, charging me €20 (approx $26) for taxes.
i didnt know that the reciever has to pay for additional taxes, i already paid an an enormous $19 for p&p.

the delivery form on the page said the following:

Code:
Payment method: PayPal (PayPal IPN)
Delivery: UPS WorldShip
Subtotal: $ 66.95
Discount: $ 0.00
Coupon saving: $ 0.00 ()
Shipping cost: $ 19.00
[b]Tax: $ 0.00[/b]

Total: $ 85.95
so it says taxes: 0.00$, why am i charged afterwards? or is it common to do it that way and its just stupid me.
i have no problems paying the taxes even if it means more taxes and shipping than the actual minis -_- but i dotn want to be charged for soemthing i dont have to pay :)
any advice or similar experiences?
thanks in advance, josh

The taxes you\'re being asked to pay are import taxes charged by your government; Import tax (Zoll) at 10% and Value Added Tax (EUST) at 15%. I think those rates are correct, they vary from country to country.

The import tax is charged on the total price, including the postage and the EUST is charged on the total cost, including the import tax.

In addition, UPS charge you an additional fee for paying the taxes for you to speed up delivery, that\'s why you get the package first, then the bill a few days later.

I\'ve been caught out a few times with deliveries from the USA too, most of the time it gets through customs no problem, but occasionally they catch it and charge you.

The reason there\'s no tax on your receipt is because you didn\'t pay local sales tax in the USA, but that has no bearing on any import taxes your country charges.

It\'s a bummer :(

Yep, our Zoll got you. Be glad that it\'s pretty moderate, don\'t ask me about my imported GP32 from Hong Kong which had a value of more than 400$ if I remember correctly...

25%!!

25% does not seem moderate at all, excessive would be the only word I could think that would cover it.

But donga is right. Death and Taxes....

I think UPS always does it that way.

It\'s happened to me too. The Government must love UPS but their European customers tend to give them a hard time.

Other carriers don\'t seem to bother and leave it up to the customs people in individual countries.

It\'s 26.5%, the EUST at 15% is levied on top of the 10% import tax, so you\'re taxed on a tax. That\'d be illegal if a corporation did it, but it\'s the government so it\'s OK :D

In the UK VAT is levied at 17.5% on virtually everything; it\'s meant to be a tax on luxuries, but they tax beer and that ain\'t no luxury as far as I\'m concerned :D

I think it was Mark Twain, but I don\'t mind stealing the credit :p

I must be really lucky, or York Post office are really slack/UPS/FedEx etc. I\'ve only been stung once for import duty, it was on a collectors edition of Seven Samurai, so it was worth it

That is bureacratic thinking at its finest!!

Here in my home state we have a 5% sales tax (in addition to the multitude of other taxes) but the local communities have seen the big bucks to be had, so now it is all the rage to add another 1% for this or 1% for that.

The last one squeaked by in the voting and now we pay a 7% sales tax. The other 2% is called the \'local option tax\'.

Except I don\'t seem to get any option!!!

Don\'t take this the wrong way...

But Americans don\'t yet know the true meaning of the word, \'tax\'.:D

In Denmark the income tax band goes from 42% to 68%. On top of hat you\'ll pay 17.5% value added tax (VAT) on everything you buy. (This applies to all EEC countries). On top of that you will find additional taxation on things such as petrol, cigarettes, alcohol, insurance, inheritance, company cars, company benefits, breathing, farting and whistling.

The UK isn\'t far behind and is catching up fast:bouncy:

taxed!

I\'ll admit our tax structure is nowhere near as invasive as that, but I believe we are following suit as well.

We have basically all those same additional taxes...inheritance, alchohol, gasoline, cigarettes, etc. etc.

I\'ll trust you remember our so called \"Boston Tea Party\" was started because of taxes!

It just outrages me to no end, that everyone (including me!!) will complain about paying higher taxes, but we never make the government accountable for where the money is going in the first place.

When I was a kid, the local sales tax in Iowa (my homestate) was 3%. And somehow that measly 3% paid for all the roads, schools, government jobs, projects...etc. etc.

Now the rate is 7% (this is NOT including income or property tax) yet still they are moaning about how they don\'t have enough money. Everything costs more than it did when I was younger, yet even with inflation, DOUBLING the tax rate isn\'t enough? Something has to be done. But it is so out of control now, it would take a \'Boston Tea Party\' to set it right....:flame:

so if i get you right you only have to pay taxes if you dont slip trought the system for any reason?
can\'t believe than i could ever dodge such things as taxes in germany but maybe i will be proved wrong some day

btw mosch, got that ogre? should be there by today.
it happened once that they sent a package back to me without informing the reciever about it :flame:

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
In Australia they waive the import tax if the item cost less than $500 (IIRC).

Also there is no inheritance of death tax, how cool is that? Now if I could just get my parents to move over here...

Don\'t worry, he arrived all right ;) Though I haven\'t started painting him yet... currently I\'m Tac-ing him together and trying different \"conversions\" (nothing serious yet) - those thingies that go over his eet give me major headaches as they just won\'t fit....
