TBS and the saga of the Wolf.

I've decided to have a WIP thread for Space Wolfy stuff. Since I have a metric f**k tonne to paint, sounded like a plan. Only a couple of WIP's so far (since i've only recently "been arsed" to get round to it) But there's plenty to come. Since Meph said vehicles were so fun, I decided to start on an old school Bjorn the Fell Handed I have. It's all metal too! So much love for the old stuff. I added some odds and sods to it from FW to make it look more awesome (hopefully) than it already is.

Nothing terribly exciting, just a base coat and some layers to the sarcophagus I'm about 1/2 way to final highlights on this one many layers later. Just a few before and afters for shits and giggles.

Now, here's the question. Should I paint the rivets the same as the chapter colour, or pick them out in metal? I honestly can't decide. Added a few "bullet holes" and a bit of scarring to weather later.

Next thing is a Wolf Guard, one of 5, natch. The bits I haven't bothered painting are obviously gonna be hidden so there was no point. The Yellow on the pad I need to rework since it came out too green looking for my taste. Not sure if I need to define the claw more either where the thumb is... Something doesn't sit right with the face in general either ...pffft. Can't pinpoint it, so I moved on till I figure it out. Suggestions always welcome.
As you can tell, he's a heap to be done to him anyway. Concentrating on the Dread for now I think.

Enjoy and pick apart as you see fit, ta!

W00p! Good to see that you've picked up a brush and started 'painting' again, I hope you're having 'fun' while doing 'it'. It 'looks' as if your paint-fu is still strong. And why the hell are sentences so much more fun when 'some' words are put in 'quotes'... :D

As for the rivets, why not pint 'm in wolfy colours and have some rivers chipped away to metal, but not all. I.e. on one or some plates, or just the occasional rivet?

And the termy... well, he's missing a helmet, that's what's wrong with him. ^^ Oh, and maybe introduce some grey hairs here and there? the face looks old and grizzled enough for it.

Haha, yeah Trys, I figured I needed to validate my general trolling and threadjacking in these parts.
Not entirely sure what i'm gonna do with the claws yet, Skraaal...I'm wondering if I should go for metal or some glowy colour... Maybe engraved metal...I have no idea. just one more indecisive headache to add to the pile.
Wooo contention in the rivets... Wondering if I shouldn't go half way and do some chipped bits. Gonna have to see how it pans out methinks. So far i've painted the "bullet holes" as dents in the armour which kina works. Did it subconsciously, but it maaay have swayed me a bit on the rivets.
Yar , Tony. I am a fellow wolfophile. When faced with so many vanilla chapters you just have to roll with space vikings. Much closer to the hairy metul mead drinking scum i'm prone to associate with. Besides, they just look cool! The only thing that holds it up is the amount of detail on the wee bastards...
Aye "Meph", i'm "painting" wooo! "Lookit" me pa! I'll see what I can "do" with the "gray" hair, kina just "left" all that for the now, wasn't "working" out as grand as i'd "hoped" =P

Stef, shusht lol! I'll return to work on some other things just to keep you happy! Maybe later today.

Cheers for the feedback, now off to work I go. HIIIIIIIII HOOOOOOOOOOO!

Aye! Chips & stains, can't go wrong with chips & stains...

And personally I'd go for metallic claws as glowy colourful power blades tend to look out of place 90% of the time, especially in such quantities.

But of course, the Choice (and the responsability that comes with it) is yours...

And don't forget to share that fair-skinned giantess with your six brothers...:meeting:

I hear that Meph "With a great p**is comes great responsibility" and all that. Wise words. She's off down to tescos at the moment but I reckon if we stack behind the door it's game on when she comes back.

I'm a pervayor of all things jacking so it's no skin off my nose. All about the banter, me! Well, I say "all" but given the severe lack of T&A in these parts a man has to make do...Or at least get his cell mate to change his dress every once and a while to keep it interesting.
I don't afraid of nuffin!

Here's for sitting on the fence. I think it depends on how weathered you are going to make it. If it is relatively well looked after I would say paint the rivets the chapter colour. If possible I would guess you'd not want the steel (or whatever funky space age material they are made of) to encounter any water so a good paint job on them would be essential to avoid rust and weakening of load bearing joins. If it's under extended operations without much maintenance then I would say some to a lot of them would have flaking and or / removed paint. I would say maybe remove some paint from them as part of the weathering. Of course in the 41 millennium or whenever their materials may be rust proof entirely! Therefore they might not have even painted them at all. So there you go, a definitive answer if I ever saw one.

It's looking good!

P.s. I have more stuff stored away than I could paint to a 5.5 standard in a lifetime!

Hmnnn, gonna do soamat with it any road. It's an older cast so it's a bit scragly and uneven in parts, kina rins in my favour that way I suppose. Often wondered the same thing about the materials and all that stuff, it's make believe I guess so i'm allowed to make it up as I go along lol! For the time being i'll potter along as is till the "end" when I can set about undoing all that work... Strangely it's the most satisfying bit! Bit like building a snowman then kicking the shit out of it...

Anyway, pictures. Tried to angle it to show at least a sembelance of what I did with the metallics. Pretty much a fail since they're just too shiny to see properly anyway, you can garner some kina of an idea though, hopefully if you squint reeeeal tight. Heaps more to do, but I can't be hooped till tomorrow now.

Woah there mate, I'm getting vertigo from all this angling going on. I'm like, feeling all dizzy and spinny like. :excruciating:

Good start on the metallics though, I'm a huge van of dark & dirty metals.

Those highlights are really nice, smooth and with a strong contrats: wish I could do that! Very natural-looking tones on those charms and bones as well.
Your metallics should be quite interesting to see eafter the're finished too if they are up to the same standards!

Now good luck to maintain the same level of painting across the army and see you in a decade ;)

I wir destloy the clome!
I haven't actually been hooped to do anything at all on it yet today, I shall though, when i've finished procrastinating. The Metals are pretty much done for those parts, bit of wishy washing and some touch ups. Once I zap it with matt varnish it'll be way more visible. Lovely as shiny things are, there can be such a thing as too shiny where pictures are concerned. Light just bounces off anything and everything. Keeping the brassy stuff dark so it looks ye aged, also because brass is very vikingy.
No idea what to do with the 3 little plates on the front, just painted them flat black so an obvious white spot wasn't staring at me all the time. Thinking maybe keeping them black now and painting runes/numbers on it or somat. Thoughts?

Cheers Has. If I can do it, anyone can as a rule. Other things I can do, most other people probably shouldn't even attempt at home. Remember childs; I am a professional, fully trained idiot!
The army thing will be a long time in the going, probably just gonna sell this lot. Never been much of a collector really. I'm sure someone can find a nice home for these guys when i'm done!
