I\'m most looking forward to the 100 meter sprint, and maybe some of the biking events. They should really introduce downhill mountain biking, which takes a lot more skill that just riding fast around a track.

Who votes for womens mud wrestling to be inducted into the olympics? I could easily replace something silly, like table tennis. :D
Sure, and synchronized women\'s stripping could replace like balltrap. lol

Streaking as an Olympic sport...

Genius! It\'d make fantastic viewing. All participants would have to make 3 streaking runs throughout the Olympics during events of their choice. They would be judged by video replay and scored for their coverage, comedy value, level of danger etc. The whole Olympics would be unmissable! Random naked nutters dodging javelins and hurdling tennis nets etc. It would also be much easier to see if the male competitors were taking performance enhancing drugs..............:D

Scratch, Scratch, Itch, Itch.

You know how the eskimos have 100 words for snow... i wonder what it says about the brits (mainly northerners may i add ;)) that they have so many coloquialisms for the term lice?

I generally ignore the polotics of it all, but I am really into sport so I really enjoy the olympics, I dont see why the only sport we see on TV has to be football (soccer) and golf, I think its good things like badmington get there 5 mins of glory.
Not in the USA they don\'t.
At least not unless you have all the cable chanels.
Once the Olympics started including basketball and baseball that\'s all we got on American networks. Guess what: we could watch those every day anyway:flame:
Where\'s fencing and hammerthrow. (the USA actually petitioned to remove fencing from the olympics so I heard even though there was an American fencer who held the record for competing in more olympics than any other person).

Sitting here watching them as I type. I just want to know, why don\'t the ladies ever streak? Why is it always the men? Just once I\'d like to see a female streaker, but then I guess the ladies have more sense than that don\'t they;) :D lol

Cheers,
Grumb
Many years ago Playboy magazine did a \"women of the Ivy League\" issue and in protest a bunch of Harvard women streaked with anti-Playboy text painted on their bodies.

Playboy\'s reaction?
Photograph them as they run by and put them in the magazine!lol

Hmm. I always thought Nits were a different bug (nit picking refering to how most primates groom each other).
Crabs we know in the US as lice in a particular part of the body best left unmentioned. Lice is short for headlice. Cooties is any generic nastiness you get by being touched by someone of the other gender when you\'re in grammar school, and also a game involving a plastic bug/jigsaw puzzle.

One thing I remember from Hawaii is the Hawaiian word for lice: Uku - as in Ukuleili
Another thing I remember is what a caller to the radio suggested for getting rid of head-lice:
Shave 1/2 of your head.
Light the other 1/2 on fire.
When they come running out to the bald part to escape the fire hit them with a hammer.

Right this seems to have caused some confusion:

Cooties = According to Collins Concise English Dictionary: Noun in U.K. , U.S.A. & N.Z Slang name for the Body Louse.
Dickies = Slang for Adult Head lice.
Nits = Slang for Larval stage of Head Louse.
Crabs = Yes well the less said, the better!

If I\'m not mistaken, Cootie gained popularity during WWI from soldiers coming home.
According to my RandomHouse dictionary it comes from the Malay word for the critter: Kutu.
Of course, modern usage has differed but maybe hasn\'t made it into the dictionaries yet.

Interestingly the women\'s hairdo popular in the 1920s with curls over the ears was called \"cootie garage\" (or specifically said curls were).

I had a misfortune of turning on the TV the moment they were showing Khorkina (from the Russian gymnastics team). Jeez, she\'s so bony, it was scary to watch her!

I think there\'s a ruling that states you must be \"born\" a female in order to compete in women\'s events.., Oh, the times we live in...

Although from the look on their faces it seemed like they were so intent on the gold, the silver seemed like just the first of the losers... :S

But I thought the ladies did bloody well! (didnt see the men)
