Terrain builders, help me out!

Alright, im looking for a foam board that i can do the following with:

I need it to be 1-2 inches thick, be able to be cut, and sanded down, fairly light weight, and reasonably priced.


I was hired to build a sign for the entrance of a party, with a guitar on it, i cut out some stencils, now i just need some foam to trace it onto, then start carving it into the right shapes.....any help at all on this would be much appreciated.

i\'d use insulating foam. you could probably get an adequate sized off cut from a builder for free

you want blue or pink extruded. Not the white bead board stuff. Home Depot or Lowes or builders supply centers. Comes in anything from 1/2\" to 5-1/2\".
Peal the protective plastic film off and you can build up \'laminations\' with simple wood glue.


It is amost impossible to carve or sand the white bead board - even a pain to use a hot wire cutter on it. Then you work on it only to see it self-destruct as the beads leave the board.
