Test Model - GW Necron- C&C required

I just wanted some opinions on this guy. I\'m making a combat patrol force for the GW Southern UK Tournament, but I want to try and get some decent \'painting\' marks, maybe even make the first cut for best painted army? I\'m happy with the metal effects I\'ve done on him, but I think it\'s lacking something. Perhaps depth in the main body? Maybe I should just try another colour scheme... What do YOU think?

The verdigris on the model looks good, but your highlights aren\'t working -- getting washed out by your lighting?

From here, the gun doesn\'t look rusted, just red with chip marks. The blade looks good, though.

Agreed with marineboy; the gun looks like a red gun that is chipped. Rust is easily worn off in exposed areas, so leave those areas metal. A little rust is a lot more convincing than large expanses of it.

The blood is too pink and too pure. Also not very convincing, it definitely needs to be darker.

The armour is very effective though, I\'d also like to know how you did it.

Ink Glaze using Chesnut:Brown ink 50:50 in a Future Floor Wax suspension

Glaze with Vallejo Verdigris, extremely dilute (rotting flesh could work here)

Edge Highlight Tinbitz:BoltGun Metal 50:50 (new, not photoed!)

Added some edge highlighting to give it more \'ping\'! Also, rebased it, as I found a much better(& cheaper!) deep snow recipe. Added the blood again, but tried to make it look like drag marks this time. Considered leaving the blood off this time, but then I wanted to increase the contrast between mini & base, and this worked.

The second shot is just so you can see the base. The colour balance is completely off.

Any thoughts? Shall I commence construction of my Legionaires of Decay?
Please bear in mind, these minis have first got to draw the eye of the judges as a group on the table, then stand up to closer inspection. I\'m thinking maybe paint the shoulder guards & knee joints in the same rust orange as the gun? Maybe not...

The Necron is looking OK, the weapon just doesn\'t look right, try doing what you did to the figure with metallics, even highlighting up to Mithril in some places. In between each hi-lite, do a Glaze and I mean glaze not a wash, of brown/black prior to the chainmail then glaze with dark flesh/ orange, the final glaze should just be orange, should give you a more believable, \'rusted weapon\' look
try it on a spare piece first to see if you like it

Wash some of the areas of the gun with an EXTREMELY thin Fiery Orange, and it should look truly rusty. It looks good right now, but the impression is a brown gun not a rusty metal one.
