Testors Dullcote finally got hold of two tins...

Well I managed to get hold of two tins of Dullcote from a friend who recently was over in the states. (I live in the UK)

He doubts that he will be going over again for a while :( so for now this is my complete stock.

I have read about how good this stuff is and really had to give it a go.

Well I\'ve sprayed it onto two very glossy varnished miniatures, which I thought had been ruined and it\'s dulled the gloss completely. I\'ve never seen anything like this with other matt sprays (and I\'ve pretty much tried everything available over here)

On one of my display models as a single quick spray over, it\'s brought out the blending and improved the richness of the piece.

I just had to tell someone! My god, I want to get on the first plane out to the US, hire a container ship, fill it\'s cargo hold full of Dullcote and sail it over... The wife didn\'t seem to want to know about the idea :)

I have heard that if you spray 1st with GW\'s sealer and the go over with Testor\'s it makes it very resiliant.

I find it amazing that this stuff is so hard to find, I can walk into just about any store that sells model cars and pick up multiple cans. You would think that Testors would make it more available in Europe.

What I do find hard to locate is these damnable Windsor & Newton Series 7 brushes. I have been to about a dozen different Arts and crafts stores in my local area and had no luck finding them. :flame:

Testors dullcoat delivery required to the UK....

At least you can airmail brushes!

do testors do a non-spray version that i could put through an airbrush? Has anyone done this?

If I had about 10 tins I would definately send you some mate.

Finally though I can protect my gaming models with a strong gloss covering and then take it back to a true matt finish.

It has to also win the award for the most smelly varnish out there :|~ It really does have a \"unique\" aroma.

Great stuff and I can\'t recommend it enough if you manage to get hold of some in the UK.

it sure does, my 2 cats scatter as far as possible to avoid the smell when I use the stuff, I\'ve kind of gotten to like it though...it\'s the smell of a finished miniature. :)

I got a bottle of the non spray testors from cmon shop. The problem with the spray cans is they can\'t be airmailed so I guess even the shops have to wait on surface shipping to get it in?

I\'ve not really been too thrilled with it in paint on format, I prefer my windsor & newton acrylic matt varnish. Maybe it really needs to be sprayed on with airbrush for best effect

Thanks Eric, I will have to check them out.

every try ordering them off the web or getting them off ebay?

I\'ve found a few suppliers but they all seem to be sold out. Ripmax is the main UK distributor/importer and they are currently out of stock.

Ebay, they just don\'t seem to come up :(

atacam had some but ran out. he know someone who knows someone etc.. apparently it took him ages to sell what he had so he doesn\'t think he\'ll bother again. i\'ve bought some from him and he sent it over nice and quick. maybe if we all ask him nicely, and promise to pay him quickly when he gets it in, he\'ll try it again.

oh yeah, dull cote rocks - i\'ve been using it over the gw stuff (i find it doesn\'t chip easily and is fairly cheap) and it looks great

Not to rub salt into wounds but I saw about 6 cans the other day at one of the local arts and crafts stores. Can these be sent over sea\'s via ground and what would shipping be if one was to do it. ???

That stuff even gets rid of the shine of rediculously shinney objects- like minis with varnish/ minwax on them.
Oh did I say that already-sutpid.stupid...;)

I would not beat yourself up to much, you have been doing a lot of talking the last few day\'s. I personally will not hold it against you this one time. :D

You can get it over via ground shipping but airmail is out. :(

However the ground mail seems to take ages to arrive and alot of suppliers in the states don\'t want to know about sending it to the UK.

I need to get a suitcase full of the stuff from the US and say at the airport, ummmm.... \"it\'s shaving foam for personal use\" \"I\'m a very hairy man you know\" :)

For those of you who can\'t find it (I can\'t get it neither, but I never really looked...), I am pretty sure I read that something called \"roughing spray\" is the same basic stuff. Supposedly it is used for CCGs so that the cards will have a better grip on one another or something along those lines. I have never tried it, but it might be worth a shot.
