Textured paint?

hi,

For a project that i am thinking of doing i need to construct a ruined building. I would proberly make it out of foamboard and other assorted odds and ends. The problem comes when i come to texture the thing. So that the walls dont looks like a piece of foamboard (i.e. very smooth) i would like to texture the walls. I could just stick my usual sand onto tthe wall but i want the texture to be quite fine so normal sand would make it look to rough.

I was thinking about using the GW spray instead, is this wiorth it or is there a better alternative out there?

To create your own textures you can always use the \"pumice\" (and other types) gels that mainstream acrylic paint makers make. Golden is the best brand with lots of choice, but expensive, check out rowley and the other - often some shops or websites will sell some as a promotion - so look around.

i wouldn\'t bother with the gw ones. i have tried 2 and the nozzles blocked after the first use on both occasions, despite me painstakingly following the instructions. i\'d get textured, external masonry paint. got a ton of it myself and would say it\'s one of the best things a terrain maker can buy. just buy it in black and it\'s already bascoated too! it\'s superb stuff that tough as nails and dries like hardened pva so you can drop it to your hearts content (everything else may break but it holds out well!!)

James try cutting Wed and Dry paper to fit an glue it onto the foamboard. It cuts easily with a pair of Scissors (Don\'t use you mum\'s best kitchen ones though! ) and will paste onto most surfaces with PVA.
I\'d look at the 100 , 200 grits before choosing one to use. Or go to Halfords and pick up a selection of grits.

Keep some spare as it\'s always good for cleaning up minis.

go to LOWE\'s and go to the section that has like dry wall repair and plaster of paris.

They have \"spray on\" textures which work OK.

BUT, the best is they have little tooth paste bottles with pink colored wall repair stuff. It dries in 30 minutes and turns white. Its pink so u can see where it goes. Apply that in layers or however with a spatula. You\'ll be able to see how you can make the building crusty or smooth, etc....

they\'re cheap and small too, so wear shorts with cargo pockets.

I use masonry paint with a small amount of fine sand added. Works a treat for me, although i have never tried it on foam, only balsa & card

all art shops sell cheap acrylic paste with pumice/you name it gel, also if you want very damaged repairs etc try... flexibark! no kidding, it\'s basically the same but the randomness of it is ineresting, I made some swollen spots on a paperwalled inside room under the rain (gosh, I wonder if anyone is going to understand that sentence, I\'m french, studying actively japanese and my word order is totally ffffff up!)

I consider getting fine-grit black paper, for use as roads (might look like asphalt, maybe with a light drybrush?). And iirc, cutting very fine grit sanding paper is supposed to sharpen scissors?

Use some cheap emulsion. Depending on how \'textured\' you want the finish, add sand, fine, grit, gravel etc and water it down to suit. Yo9u can then spray it black or paint and drybrush it.
Always found this works well but then again, I\'m from the cheap / free school of modelling.

Yes it does sharpen scissors, but I\'m not about to use a pair of my wifes good Kitchen Devils. Female Family members don\'t always appreciate the \"Finer\" arts of model making.
I\'ve enough \"Black marks\" against me as it is.

i\'ve got this stuff called \"texture paste\" (Brand:Jo sonjas, i got it from an art store) its a smooth paste that dries clear, i stipple it to get a nice textured effect.it does tend to be hard to spread because it sticks in your brush and hardens, but u can use a spatula and it works ok.....

i have used Gw spray textured paint but its less useful because you cant just target one area with it, it gets onto everything. the texture in it isnt very good either, its got like little specks in it, that when applied to say a wall it just looks like a wall with lots of specs stuck to it, not really like a rough texture.


i really want to get some masonry paint but i can never find any in the hardware stores...
