Thank you customs.

The wife and I made the big move back to Canada. I carefully packed my painted miniatures into he boxes. They were stored in foam trays and foam liners. They could not move while in he box. I packed them that way. When i get the boxes and I open them up to store the trays I see that someone, probably a customs agent, had opened the box. But they didn't place them back with the same care. When I opened the box, it had empty trays and painted miniatures just sitting there in the box. It looked like I poured the miniature in the box and left it at that. The end result is broken banner poles or miniatures with missing parts that aren't in the box. A lot of he miniatures are out of production.

Ten years of work destroyed by someone probably having a bad day.

Back to the drawing board.:(

a similar thing happened to me on the way back from Scotland this summer. Fortunately it wasnt all my minis - just my Cryx warmachine stuff. Still, it looked like theyd drop kicked it from the UK all the way back to Japan :( That's the last time I bring my minis over for a friendly game with my mates back home :(

I can only imagine how I'd feel if it was my whole mini collection. You have my sincerest sympathy :(

Never done it, but do you have no right to claim for the damage. I know it's not the money, but the blood, sweat, and tears that go into the painting, but surely if the fail to pack things away as they were then they should pay for their destruction?

I/we jesterzusmc had a simular run in with the deathjester i packed it with extreme care as the collar n cuffs where extremely fragile when it arrived the collar and one of the cuffs had been smashed, the reason i know it wasnt in transit is that jesterz couldnt find the broken shards in the package. I went to the post office and found out an interesting tid bit that a full clear concise description on the customs form will usually stop the idiots openinig up what they think is some kind of magical mystery package, so the moral of the story is write a good description of the contents.

That's is standard operating procedure for customs agents. They NEVER repack it with any care, they just ram it all in there and tape up the holes and flaps. Good luck trying to prove they did it and get any compensation, it can't be done. I hate them...they are on the short list of first to die when I rule. Pretty much every single item I've gotten that was opened/inspected by customs has had damage and improper repacking. And there've been a great many of them.

Clear and concise: Miniatures I've spent ten years painting and more hours than you could imagine that I really don't won't broken by you.

Cassar, I think he was stating what he would write on the customs form. Don't think it was directed at you, rather at the customs person reading the form. Had to read it twice myself.

NO! It was definitely addressed to Cassar! Now be quiet, sit back, pass the popcorn and watch as a flame war erupts!

All kidding aside, I think you have this one spot on, Peg. Cassar apparently is feeling overly defensive and might just need a hug:

Sorry about the confusion Cassar, it was nothing meant towards you.

I was just saying that after reading this post, if I shipped any of my mini's I would write on the description of what's in the box: Miniatures I've spent ten years painting and more hours than you could imagine that I really don't won't broken by you. In this, the 'you' is the customs agent being an arse, not Cassar. Hopefully with this clear and concise statement you could convey to the custom agents that these aren't just toys you didn't care about.

Because of the confusion I am now picturing a laughing cat working for customs, waiting for miniatures to come though. When they do, the other custom agents wave him over and say, "you're up" and the cat goes crazy on them, ripping them apart (But this is NOT what I originally intend with my statement).

I did label it. I even took custom forms home and meticulously wrote the information out. I 've found Simple Green around here. So, I am going to start repainting stuff. Maybe I can do it better.

My sympathies dude. I can't even imagine how I'd react to that.

It sounds like you did everything 'right' and yet this outcome.

Good on ya for rebuilding.

While I doubt you could get financial compensation is it worth making a bother with customs and maybe getting an apology?

That isn't a loaded question btw, I am sincerely asking if it is worth it to you.
