Hi all
I am working in China at the moment in a very small town (the only westerner that most locals have ever seen) and my link to the world is the internet (when it works) and try to visit this site every day...you are all great people and I would like to thank everyone for keeping me saner than I would be otherwise.

lol! Thanks for the nod, Tercha. Going astray? Definitely not as a female. ;) But horse painter, ya, you're right there. While I love the equine models, it's the tiny intricate details of miniature painting that I enjoy most.

I definitely enjoy the community here. What I love most is that everyone is so helpful and encouraging. I really like seeing the improvements and growth as artists that folks make over the years. And I have seen huge leaps in my own abilities in a very short amount of time. Who would have thought a gal with severe hand tremors would have a prayer in this hobby?

How long are you supposed to be in China? I know they're not too friendly when it comes to internet access. I remember that whole big deal with Google.

Glad to have ya here, Tercha! And hang in there!

What are you working on out there? - Client representative for some mining equipment being fabricated - nothing glamorous
NO CHRISTMAS!, baa humbug - I have found some English teachers from UK in the next town so we will have a secret christmas! - Religion doesn't fit in with the communist ideology

Thanks for the nod. I try to contribute constructively here... except when I revert to making cheeky comments on people's minis ;) I myself have gained so, so much from this community since around 2002 (!) that it's hard to even articulate. I enjoy a variety of other forums lately, but this is still the one I come home to.

As for Kathrynloch "going astray"... LOL! I'd definitely say her astrayness is our bonus, since any cross-pollination between hobby genres usually results in some useful skills being transferred! But yes, coming here to the home of Big Stompas and Chaos Hell Cannons With Rivers of Bloody Corpses is a long way from painted Percherons, in my eyes :)

Hmm - if we could celebrate Christmas 5 years running in a Moslem country, I'm pretty sure you can do it in a Communist one.

:silly:

well, this whole thread just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside :) I hear ya on the Christmas thing, tho, not that it's banned here or anything. In fact, it's extremely popular. Unfortunately the wrong end of the stick has been well and truly gotten hold of.

e.g. Christmas cake must be a light sponge with lots of cream and strawberries. No strawberries? Weeeell, it aint christmas cake then, is it? Why? Because December is strawberry season here.
Christmas eve is a very important night. Because it's very romantic and you MUST go on a date with your g/f. This date must be to KFC, because everyone eats chicken on christmas eve. (I kid you not - they start taking reservations in KFC from about now, and if you try to get in there any time between the 20th and the 24th december, you get turned away at the door if you dont have a reservation. From KFC!!!)
Christmas day is the day when all the decorations come down. Within hours. Then all the Oshogatsu stuff goes up (New Year. Very Bamboo-ey). Christmas day is, in effect, the day the christmas season ends.

It's Christmas Jim, but not as we know it...

Christmas in a moslem (Islamic) country is normal as Jesus is an islamic prophet - though the difference is he is not the son of god or reborn -so christmas is "In" but Easter "out"
Me-in-Japan: you really should experience the weddings here - they are like every tacky disney romance thing put together - with fireworks!

hahaha! Well thank you - but a lot of people don't realize I was painting minis long before equine models. I had to stop because the hand tremors got so bad I couldn't paint that small any more. The larger equine models I could paint and doing that allowed me to learn how to work around the tremors to a certain extent. So I was able to come back to drive you guys nuts again. :rotfl:

And I picked up some new techniques along the way.

Lol yeah all we need now to make Kats turn to the dark side complete is to get her to paint a space marine..

Workin' on it. Sheesh! You are not known for your patience are you? Unfortunately, the space marine sculpts I like are usually the big figures with all of the tiny scroll and other freehand work. Not quite there with the control yet but doing stuff like these Necrons...well, I'm getting there. ;)

True - but not always the easiest thing to do when the guys outside the wire are lobbing Rockets at you.
