Thanks for the sniping broardside.

Sorry, I didn\'t quite mean that the way it came out.

I think also the funny thing about complaining about snipping on these boards is I\'m 100% convinced there are no snippers here (after getting 90+ votes on my maiden only being posted on this board and not a single snipe...)

I think instead of threads complaining about snipers, since we\'re all in the same boat, people should just post they need a hug when they feel hurt by snipers...and we\'ll all know why. e-hugs can be sent and we can all get back to our normal business

Sniping, it happens to the best of us!

lol lol lol - yeah I think you hit the point. I can`t remember an average or below average painter to complain about sniping. SO let`s be average ...
@Joe Hill - don`t worry about such stuff, just keep those beauties coming :) .

One thing that you may want to remember is that a lot of people do not like to give out 10\'s unless there is some conversion. From what I could tell you did conversion work on most if not all of your peices, but out of the 9 pictures that you had I only saw 2 that showed your green stuff work and then 2 other\'s that I saw mention of conversion work. All in all I would say that your stuff is incredible! Keep up your pictures and the incredible painting.

I quite understand where you\'re coming from, Joe. My second miniature on this site started at a 7, and then miraculously jumped to a 7.5 score. \"Yay!\" I thought! The next DAY, it had dropped to a 6.5. A whole grade/number/unit - gone! Yes, I was a little upset - but you have to think, what difference does it make? People are still enjoying your works, and you\'re getting better and having fun. Your score dropped by a tenth of a point, by what I gather here...what\'s one decimal point? I mean no offense, and as I said I understand your position, but for a person who\'s won awards and recognition both in the real and virtual world for your astounding talents, surely you can just shrug this one off.

We love your stuff, recognise your talents and encourage you to keep displaying your inspiring works - don\'t let a minor drop in your score get you down! :)

et tu, Malleus? Are you and Peter BOTH out to make me feel crappy?:p

I\'ve never bothered to look and figure out how you know someone\'s sniping, except for the radical change in score. After I first joined CMON, I thought people were able to look at who voted what score on their minis. Silly me!

Joe,
I for one really enjoy checking out your work and appreciate it. I\'ve been sniped - I think most of have, but it *will* even itself out over time.
Even from reading this thread, you may find the opposite of sniping may happen - people voting again, a little higher than normal, because they have heard you being sniped and want to balance the ledger.
The higher up you go, the more likely it is to happen - particularly if you offend someone elses sensibilities by voting and posting a comment with which they don\'t agree. Like a \'revenge\' snipe.
Everyone here knows it happens. I think it is just part and parcel of the scene. Don\'t let it ruffle you mate :)

Actually, no. Sorry :(

I get sniped quite often and certainly aren\'t part of the best. I usually like to watch my scores daily and since votes come in quite slowly, I get to see whenever I get few ones. When my score is around 8 or so and I have only 20-30 votes, I can easily see when I get few ones - or at least it\'s easy to calculate which votes I received.

And no, I don\'t paint that bad to deserve those ones. :)

I believe few painters here snipe my work whenever they see them because it seems I\'ve offended them for not giving their minis good enough scores and leaving critical comments - although I have no proof of this, of course.

I believe that whenever you\'re active in a site/forum or are just talented, people will snipe or hurt you in several different ways. Personally, I take pride in not going as low as such people but get still hurt of people practicing that.

Joe, at least all those who matter (ie. all who aren\'t snipers) would still like to see your minis here on CMON.

Just 0,02e from Finland, folks.

That\'s a good theory Zora but it doesn\'t work. I\'m in the bottom half of the painters here but I\'ve gotten sniped a couple of times.

@Joe - please don\'t take your work down. You are one of my favorites around here, I\'d hate to see your minis go away.

As tradition dictates now, I am off to get a drink...or, another drink anyway.... ;)

Cheers,

Well I\'ve spent the whole evening drinking, so i think I\'ve covered all the sniping etc threads for a while.

Trevor - off to collapse unconcious so I can get on with the PA OKs tomorrow :D

Loads of thanks to all those who have replied to my rather petulant post! I know it was a bit of an over-reaction but it has made me realise just how much I was allowing certain issues with this site to wind me up over the last few months. The main problem is that I want to be involved in it all and display my work for myself and for those that are interested, but I don\'t want to be involved in ranking and scores anymore. One option is to rely on GW to publish my models, but that would mean I would be restricted to GW models for ever (not a nice thought).
So after much procrastination I think I have found a solution.

Firstly: I have removed all the images from my gallery and will not be posting anymore. This isn\'t a stroppy \'it\'s not fair\' reaction to being sniped the other day (though I know it might appear that way).
That was just the final nail.

Secondly: If someone would be kind enough to tell me how to, I\'ll post any new work on these forum pages. That way people that are interested can still see my work and pass comment and I\'ll hopefully get more feedback than just from my friends here in Nottingham.

Thirdly: If anyone has an interest in a particular model then I\'ll do my best to e-mail more exhaustive images to them directly.

I think this is a good comprimise for me personally and I feel much better for removing my gallery. I also feel much better for all the positive responses I\'ve had to my outburst!
Hopefully, soon, I\'ll finally be getting some decent photos of my \'Friar Tuck\' Bretonian entry from last year\'s UK GD, so I\'ll post that first. After that I should have some pieces for the up-coming French GD.
Thanks agan.... Josef

Hey Joe, sorry to hear about your troubles. But what you could do is set up an internet gallery.
Maybe on http://www.photobucket.com or http://www.pbase.com and then point it out to us on the forums, this way.. No scores and no ranks.

I hope that was of some help :D

To post pics in the forums, you have to host them somewhere on the web. I use photobucket.com for this, it\'s fast and free. Then use the little icon that looks like a yellow postcard with a mountain when posting here, and insert the image url there.

:)

Yeah, but you\'re still a better painter than the snipers.

Host the images on Photobucket. Use the little image button in the Post Reply page (
bb_image.gif
) to link to them, and tada!

I\'m glad to hear you\'ll still display your work for us, although I can\'t help but feel cmon has lost something with this change. I guess the important thing in the end is that you keep painting and keep enjoying it!

I look forward to seeing your posts with new work. :)

You were right - toys out the pram!

The algorithym that removes stray scores and the fact that you can\'t repeatedly vote on one mini (enough to drastically lower its score...) means that this will in all probability not have been a personal vendetta nor lots of people sniping, but that the piece(s) have been getting mainly 9\'s instead of 10\'s over the past few months. It is representative of the raise in standards on the site.

You don\'t need the validation of this site with what you have achieved. Taking all your minis down just seems a little petulant and/or knee jerk. Put them back-we love them!

well I learned yesterday that people must go out of their way to vote more than once. The maiden went down .2 in about 8 votes (which is something when at 330+ votes), and then at the algorithm time of course lost all 8 votes and went back up. So either 8 different people all for some reason picked yesterday, or someone really went above and beyond to waste their time snipping. It is a touch mind boggling ??? Although it is fun to watch the maiden, she seems to be on a permenant yo-yo stuggle between snippers and the algorithm.

However I think what happens with a lot of older models is that voting in general seems to be getting tougher. What was outstanding and got \"wow\" votes before may not stand out anymore with combined works that have come since. That\'s not saying they\'re not still absolutely outstanding, just that they may not stand out from the croud quite as much anymore. :(

(in other words, I agree with spacemunkie)

Hell, I\'ve been getting sniped the last three days and personally I had to laugh about it. Either someone likes my stuff well enough to snipe it (oooh, I\'m swooning), I\'ve ticked someone off with a comment on their miniature (I try to be fair and fun at the same time) or I\'ve managed to irk someone here in the forums (not too far off the possibility).

Still, I\'m painting and enjoying.
