For folks who dont know much about me I have actually come into CMON from the world of military modelling.
I have loved the world of Space Marines for quite a few years now but the historical minis I have been doing for well over 3 decades !
If your interested in history check out these 3 guys( I need to keep practising putting down links now I have learnt how to do it !Over 40 syndrome

PAINTS

Hi Yawl , my military minis I paint in Humbrol E namels, which I have been using since I started modelling, when a pot of paint was one and six,( the Dark ages before decimalisation ).
However over the past few years I have bolstered the enamels with oils.
My most recent experiment is obviously Citadel paints which I have been getting to grips with over the last couple of years.
As someone who has made a name for himself in the small & petty world of military modelling for a grungy, faded, weather beaten style of painting I really like the boldness & vibrancy of acrylics, it makes a nice change.
The snow on the Skier & the big Space Wolf Priest is some evil white powder ( NO ! not that stuff ! ), I got from a mate who works on satelites.I had to wear a mask & gloves to use it! lol
GOD bless ...............VINCENTI

P.S. Chance for another LINK !

HOW ITS DONE

I will answer both questions using Tersteegen as the example.
He started out as a pair of feet on a resin base (Forge Worlds, LEONATIS/BLOOD ANGEL ). A wire armature was then built up using lumps of the original mini carved back to a pelvic & thorasic girdle. Once I was happy with the pose I start fleshing the anatomy out, when thats dry I build on the armour, when that dry I add on the details.
I use Magic Sculpt & Milliput for the various parts.
Painting this mini (80mm) I use the same techniques on all tne Sci/Fi minis in my gallery regardless of size.
Primed in Citadel White/Black, then base coated in Citadels. When that is dry I use Artists oils for the large one colour areas,on Tersteegen that was his black armour. His surcoat was painted in Enamels with a dash of oil added to give it vibrancy. His face was done in Enamels with a few stains added in oils. All Iconography/Details is painted using Citadel paints. The banner is also Citadel over Enamel base coat,
All the metal work is done with printers ink ( something most military modellers use )
I hope that answers your questions
???
All the battle damage is sculpted into the mini and then that & the scratches are painted in printers ink. Painting combat minis that actually look like they have seen some action is very time consuming (3 days on this baby !).
Whole projec t5-6 weeks
