I think twinkees are supposed to be a sponge cake, like the cake of a strawberry shortcake or a jelly roll, stuffed with whipped creme.
As a child they tasted yummy.
As an adult, I think they taste like sugar and corn-syrup whipped full of air.

Here\'s what happened when they put a peep in phenol:

Time = 65 Min

Quite unexpected (and disturbing) results became evident after a little more than one hour of solubility testing.

As can be seen to the right, although the Peep body was dissolved by phenol, the eyes were not. In fact, Peep eyes were insoluble in all the solutions which were tested.
