The art of a good wet palette?

I\'ve read on numerous forums that a sandwich box, water soaked sponge, and parchment paper makes a good wet palette for GW style paints. So I went out and bought what I need, and it is working... sort of.

The first recommendation I read is that wax paper is good, and it\'s not, completely waterproof and paint dries on it. Parchment paper again, seems waterproof, but paint does last a long time on it. I don\'t understand how some people say it last days, but it\'s definitely better at keeping the paint wet longer.

Maybe I should get the proper wet palette paper that a lot of people use. Any tips?

i bought a cheap wet pallet andd it works great...
wet pallet paper is great stays wet for days.

Yeah, this is pretty obvious really since wax is completely impermeable to water, so any time you see this mentioned the person writing is getting the name of the stuff wrong or they don\'t really know what they\'re talking about.

This might depend on exactly what you\'re using. So: what are you using?

I use baking parchment and, covered, puddles of paint will last for weeks often. If there\'s just a small skim of paint (just a quick something I mixed using the brush to use on a tiny area) they\'ll often dry out even when covered but any decent amount of paint will last for ages.

During long painting sessions, six or eight hours, when uncovered I almost never have paint dry any amount that you\'d notice as long as the reservoir is damp. And I once left a palette uncovered for an entire day and most of the paint was still good.

I use plastic food storage containers, kitchen paper for the moisture reservoir and baking parchment for the membrane paper. No complaints really and from what I\'ve read of the real thing it appears to work nearly exactly the same and it only cost pennies.

I would recomend springing for a proper wet palette. I got a small one about 6\"x8\" for 10 dollars or less and it works beautifully. The palette paper lasts a long time since you can wash the paint off and use it over later. For me a few dollars is worth the peace of mind knowing i\'m using the right stuff and it\'s going to work the way I expect it to.

I use an ordinary Kitchen/surface tile, like most GW store, does the trick, but my paints certainly do NOT last days lol :drunk:
