Or should we all slap on the sandwich boards and proclaim the End is Nigh?

Planned to do that with a friend of mine. I would go around the city with a sandwich board that reads \"The end is coming!\". He was supposed to be about 200 metres behind me wearing a sandwich board tha says \"The End.\"

We never actually did it. Good thing you reminded me!

think a lot of people dont vote in america because:
1) they dont care about politics - only celebs
2) they are disenfranchised - they (understandably) dont think their vote does anything. why? maybe because its only one vote, or maybe because they think that its rigged (might be...)

as for global warming - ive read some VERY interesting papers lately, that addressed two impacts of pollution:
1) increase of greenhouse gasses -> increased global temps
2)increase in particulate matter -> global dimming (decreased global temps)

the two work in opposing maners. what does this mean? recent changes in particulate matter pollutant laws have decreased their emission (smog has decreased etc) resulting in a brightening that may acctually ACCELERATE global warming. crazy stuff. the data is VERY good.
if you want an informed opinion try :this NOVA article.

or ask me if youd like me to send you some research papers, so you can draw your own conclusions.

I turn to Cartoons for enlightenment...

Futurama-

Frye: What ever happened to Global Warming?
Prof. Farnesworth: It got cancelled out by the second Ice Age.

See? Now we have nothing to fear! lol

Unless of course you realize that by 2012 there won\'t be enough trees left to support animal life (us) on this planet. But hey, who needs oxygen? ;)

If anyone is interested in the global warming (and even if you are not) I definatly recomend seeing the movie \"An inconvenient truth\". It is not a laugh out loud movie, there is no action, and I don\'t think i saw a well proportioned woman in the whole thing; In fact it is just a big lecture (quite literally) but it is without a doubt the best lecture I’ve ever sat through.

i think the quote you\'re refering to is (season 2 \"an x-mas story\"):

fry: im glad global warming never happened
leelah: actually it did, but thank god nuclear winter cancelled it out

\"Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders, and love chatter in places of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.\"

- Socrates, 5th century BC

The more things change, the more they remain the same. :D

I\'m a fan, not a fanatic. ;)

I knew it went something like that, I just thought it was between Frye and the Prof.

Bite my shiny metal ass... :p

Incidentally, it has been hypothesised that Global warming could actually cause a DROP in climatic temperatures!

Personally - I just think we\'re still coming out of the LAST ice age.

Agreed:

\"The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun.
Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
[There is] no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after.\"

Even the ancient meso-americans predicted global (well, universal) cataclysm. Even the doomsaying seers have remained with us. There robes are just different.

Beware the 3 E\'s

1. Eco/Environmental Scare

to elicit ideas(new standards) of social

2. Equity

which leads inevitably to

3. Economic redistribution

My happy thought for the day.
