I honor of the cold and flu season, which has hit my house and me in particular with a vengence, I would like to ask that all of you post your best home remedies for colds and flu. And none of this \"plenty of rest and fluids\" drivel. I want the stuff that makes your bowels churn.

Feel free to ridicual each other along the way. Actually, the more ridicule worthy the remedy the better.

Mine? Hot Cranberry juice. Works wonders on sore throats if you can keep it down.

For you Liz the best remedy is a big cuddle and plenty of TLC ;)

...failing that, hot whiskey by the bucketload :drunk: It might not cure you but you really won\'t care!

Lots of echinacea and a hot bath, with;
8 drops lavender
5 drops rosemary oil
3 drops eucalyptus oil
3 drops peppermint oil
1 drop clove oil
And then straight to bed for a good night\'s sleep. Hibernate under the bed clothes, and build up a sweat, bordering on hyperthermia, to burn the pathogens out.

Next morning, I\'m as right as rain. My metabolism goes into overdrive, and burns the little suckers right out.

git!

i was laid out a couple of weeks ago. couldn\'t bloody move all day. upshot of that is i find i can\'t sleep at night. over int he uk we have night nurse capsules (or drink but that IS foul) that make you drowsy which helps you have a good night sleep

nothing like a good bath (boiling hot and stay in it until you nearly drown by falling asleep or risk dissolving!) or a hot shower on massage to get the blood flowing back to those aching muscles

There\'s an important rule about colds:
take this and you\'ll get better in about seven days;
take nothing and you\'ll get better in about a week.

lol right there! most remedies only help alleviate the symptoms rather than the cause

- A few bong hits or reefers depending on your preference
- A couple of valiums
- Read
- Drift off to sleep
- Wake up a fair while later
- Drink fresh orange juice
- Eat chicken, tomato or vegetable soup
- Repeat until well

Haven\'t tried this since I was at university mind you, but it worked a treat then. Three cycles of the above and I felt amazing.

That\'s actually a really good call. I do this, too, and it has the benefit of clearing the sinuses and providing a lot of Vitamin C (in the jalapenos) and potassium (in the tomatoes). Of course, you have to like hot things. ;)

I\'ve also found sushi with lots of wasabi to be a good thing for colds and hangovers. I don\'t think I\'d do that if I had a stomach flu, though, but then again, it is actually kind of easy to digest and provides a lot of protein.

When I get a cold, I usually just take Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold, wrap up, and sweat it out. It\'s usually run its course in a day or two. Haven\'t had a flu in quite a while, though, so I don\'t even remember what I did for that. (Now saying that, I\'ll probably get a flu within a week. ;) )

Recovering Megalomaniac
Drink a Hot Toddy..and go to bed.

Hot Toddy

Ingredients:
1 tblsp Honey
3/4 glass Hot Tea
2 shots Brandy
1 slice Lemon
Mixing instructions:
Brew tea and fill tall glass 3/4 full. Mix in honey. Mix in Brandy shots. Add lemon slice and enjoy.

(opens breathing passages and promotes sweating and expectoration{phlem}) Both help to speed recovery from common seaonal and allergic ailments. Take a hot shower when you wake up so that your pores don\'t re-absorb the filth you sweat out while sleeping.
Always works for me.
