The BEST OF.....ORC edition.

So, here's the idea. Please submit pictures of what you believe is to be the best orc sculpt on the market.

It can be an ORK or an ORC...any genre.

It can be of any scale, by any manufacturer. (even if it is no longer available on the market)

Nominate your favorite, and please, if possible write a bit of a description on why you think this nomination qualifies as the 'BEST OF'.

I will accept nominations for roughly a week, then put together a poll.

Any non-orcs, single one off sculpts, or heavy conversions will be disqualified, and not eligible for the poll. (my discretion)

THIS IS NOT ABOUT PAINTING! Simply about who has the best ORC available.

(understandedly, it's probably easier to find a painted version of the sculpts, which is fine for nominations)

I'm quite simple I very much like these and all the Lord of the Rings Orcs made by GW.

My reason is it's not a bloody green Orc which has the trade mark Orc features. These Orcs are more natural looking. They look like creatures that have become corrupt over time, which is a story for Orcs that I particularly like.

Well, for me it has to be the legendary GW Ghazghkull Goff Warband Orks of 1991, this is when I got started in the hobby.
I had the white dwarf mag with all the unit colour scehemes. The attention to all the history of the band and its victories, its what got me started in the first place and to me its the benchmark for today. God them were the days :)

I too have much love for the old school, so shall be throwing out pics for those.
This one, however, is more recent.

I dunno what it is about this sculpt I love, the splayed fingers are an awesome touch not many sculpts i've seen opt for (due to being a pain in the arse to cast, I suppose) but it just looks nice and orky and shamany and dynamic and lovely.

Ork Shaman by Avatars of War , by the way ;P

That's an excellent nomination TBS!! I'm still looking for my 'fave'...but I may end up just endorsing yours!

OH...and please submitters, include the name/manufacturer/model number if at all possible....That will make it easier when it comes time to vote.

That's the backstory of the Orcs I like best too....

personally ive always been a big fan of the rackham orcs - very different from your typical orc fare. i recently had the pleasure of acquiring a nearly complete collection of the orcs of the behemoth for a very reasonable price, and the two that stood out the most (to me) were the mountaineers. i prefer the first (http://underthemountain.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/orsp04.jpg), but the second is probably "cooler" because of the more dynamic pose.

that's a very old limited edition gw nob... I tried to track this little bastard down when i was painting my nobs, but the few times i saw it on the bay it got swamped with bidds and went for like a million dollars. i agree, this is one of my favourite orc/k

First of all I must admit that I don't like Orcs very much, but there is one 1 Orc miniature I really like ... and if it appeals to me it simply has to be the best Orc miniature out there :D

Orc Shaman by Games Workshop, sculpted by Brain Nelson if I am not mistaken:

Almost impossible to choose a favourite, but I am going to go with this Amok Slayer from Rackham and painted by TIN:

Yeah, I that might be my favourite as well. I think Brian Nelson has done my favourite Orcs/Orks it's just a matter of choosing which.

Can somebody explain to me why that checker pattern keeps appearing on orcs/gobbos? Is it something I'm missing?

I don't think you are. I believe it started back with the 'Eavy Metal painters during the early White Dwarf days, and it's just kind of become a popular motif for Greenies.....I could be wrong though, that happens alot.

Well I understand the red and the checker pattern, but I'm talking specifically when I've seen it on reflective metallic surfaces, like night goblins and the above ork.
