The best paint brand for white?

Hoi!

I haven't been following the paint comparisons lately so I would like to know what's the best paint brand for white nowadays? Currently I'm using VMC White but it leaves a rather grainy surface - and I suppose the reason isn't my tendency to thin paints a lot.

OK, basically you've answered your own question by admitting you don't thin your paints enough.

BUT you could help yourself by obtaining Vallejo Airbrush Colour White as this is thinner than 'VMC Standard'. Test it and if that's not to your liking you can mix it with VMC White to get a mid density.

I've had pretty good results using the new GW layer "White Scar" over a pale grey base (assuming you're after painting something white). I expect the P3 will be pretty good too as they're liquid pigments rather than traditional powder (apparently). Completely agree on testing VMA too :)

I was gonna say P3. Certainly enjoyed using their white to the extent I'll be getting more p3 when I run out. Haven't run into any issues with gritty clumps in the pot the way many other ranges have. Didn't know about the liquid pigment schtick.

I'll take Vallejo Model Air White any day. Absolutely superb white. P3 Morrow White is a close second.

I'm sort of curious how many different whites people have tested. I mean, I have a favorite but that's just because it works fine for me. I haven't tried all that many.

What I tried so far:
P3 Morrow White - Pretty decent, but needs a (light) grey base
VGC - White - takes a few layers, but can look ok (Not if you jump too much in shades, so darkgrey --> white = grainy, light color --> white = ok)
VAC - White - pretty much the same, grains are smaller, but because it's thinner it needs either a light grey base, or quite a few layers
GW - Base - White - Covers even dark colors pretty good (even black) turned out to be great, but dried out in the pot in about 6 months , so it is sensitive to it.
Tamiya - Flat White - really lovely white, but best used with an airbrush. Covers well with a brush too, but to me all Tamiya feel a bit weird.
Rackham - White - Not produced anymore, covers quite good, but unless diluted enough it's grainy as hell.

"Best" leaves the door wide open. Best for what? Opaqueness? Smoothness? Coverage? Cost?

Ford/Chevy arguments are bound to come of this.
