The best part of being a painter

Defianlty the best thing is that you don\'t have to get gifts. You can just give stuff away. It works well on the ladies aswell. Im painting something for a friend

I must travel in a very small circle. I have yet to meet a LADY who is interested in miniatures. I think they all prefer flowers and other smelly stuff.

When a friend of mine got married I gave the happy couple a painting. One month, four months, one year and I still dont see the painting up in their house. Dont remember exactly how it came up but my buddies wife remarked how her son really loved getting it..... I\'ll think twice before bestowing a painting on someone again.

Nice. So did they just pass the gift off on their son, or think you gave it to him and not them?

When people get married, sometimes they turn into kind of assholes. Not sure why that happens.

That\'s how I met my lady. She originally commissioned me to paint some dragons for her.

Well, if did that (giving away miniatures that stand around or even ones that are really painted just for that purpose) everyone would just say \"C\'mon, you paint those little things all day (not true, by the way), you were too lazy to get a proper present, I have no use for this, you don\'t really like me.\"

That\'s why I nontheless have to get normal presents like everyone else.

It is a fine thing, indeed.
My 7 year old niece thinks I\'m the greatest mini painter there is.

She may be biased, what with me being the favourite uncle, but she\'s seen CMON, and still thinks I\'m the best.

She asked me to paint her a fairy princess as a christmas present for her.

*pause while everyone goes \'awwwwww\'*

I\'ve also done a few as bday gifts.

I painted a mini as a gift for a friend a few years ago. I thought she\'d appreciate it because she likes fantasy - it was a griffon - and she likes handmade gifts. But she looked at it kind of oddly when I gave it to her. Oh well.

Now I\'m off home to finish painting 4 minis for a friend of mine. Not gifts, though; he asked me to paint them. And while I\'m at it I\'ll primer a mini for my fiancee. :)

I wasn\'t nessecarily refering to mini painting though. My friend asked me to do a portrait of her for her birthday. Im still going to do it for her but its in like a week so yeah.. defianlty not enough time. Im giving her a shroom sculpted and (soon to be) painted by me instead. I guess i could make it into a necklace piece.

Whaa... whaaaaaat? There\'s painting that doesn\'t involve minis?

Yeah, I\'ve given one mini away. Only one. But I knew it would be appreciated before I gave it. I\'d like to be able to give more painted minis away, but it won\'t happen again unless someone has seen the mini and appreciates it already.

I\'ve done a few as prezzies in the past. The only problem is that as a painter you tend to keep improving year on year. Now when I see them at friends/relations houses I cringe at the ones I did a few years back. I keep wanting to sneak them out with me and re-do them:D
