Your questions are of course valid, Rev. What I\'m curious about is, were you excommunicated by an official forum convened by the (....) church? How did the process proceed?

If you did get x\'d it would actually take quite the effort of the church to do I would think. As opposed to saying, that\'s your opinion and let you do your own thing. The thing you mentioned(rev) would probably do it if you had a public forum where you said it to members of the church.
Did they break out the whips and make you confess though, that\'s what we really want to know.:innocent:lol

Nah, it was a Brethren/non-conformist church and as such it was very open. I was quite involved you see...
In the end it was a case of establishing why I wasn\'t attending any longer and then length of time spent away from the place. They advised me of what they were doing (at least my mate Eric the pastor did) and then a letter was sent making it formal. A strange feeling it was as well.

In all fairness I was hardly bothered by that point. What DID bother me is that one of the pastors had done a line in touching up one young boy. I was pissed off entirely when i heard that. In all the churches of all the towns in Wales, you wouldn\'t have expected it there. The swine. Went to jail but back out and in the church to a minor extent.

That is messed up bigtime- and they don\'t get x\'d. Now that is a crime that should be automatic. It might make them think about what they\'d done. Pigs. It probably wouldn\'t prevent it, but at least something else like being excomunicated would give them some more consequences to deal with. You\'d see how holy they were then.

Here in Denmark the state church extices people to attend holiday services by serving brunch or punch (or lunch) depending on the event....by bribing the public they bolster attendance.

Kinda odd, I\'d have thought the christians would have outweighed the non christians like me more. I guess all the buddhists and muzlims and such are grouped in with my %42 though.

That\'s right but I doubt that that\'s the main part of the 42%. From the sound of the thread I\'d say most are atheist, agnostic or follow one of the smaller religions/ways of life. You could do another poll on this to find out.
As it was, I was actually a bit surprised by the way you set up the poll. Are there that many Christians in Canada? Who actually follow the religion that is (as oppossed to listen as Christian since they were baptised but not actually going to church or even believing in god).
It could be you forgot to consider Europe. the number of real Christians here is rather limited (well, there are quite a few in the South but far less in the North). One of the reason we don\'t have any religion related texts on the Euro

Islam is the most popular religion, worldwide, followed by Atheism. Following that is Catholicism and Hinduism.
If you ignore the subsets of Christianity and lump all the denominations together, then that\'s the most popular, followed closely by Islam and Atheism. Of course, it\'s not a fair count to lump one group of denominations together while counting the others seperately, but most \"religious statistics\" are done precisely that way, depending on who\'s doing the counting and which religion they want to be top.

Don\'t forget there are many other groups within Islam, Jewish faith, Hinduism etc... just like there may be in Christianity.

I\'ll rephrase: The real question is \"which one do you want to claim is the most popular\" and you can easily skew the statistics to suit.
This \"poll\" itself is skewed right out the gate. I mean, c\'mon... \"Are you Christian, Christian, Christian, or other?\" Hence the results are not at all surprising.
On a google search, the bias is obvious; Christian sites say Christianity is the most popular, while Islamic sites claim Islam is. Many don\'t even considering Atheism a religion at all, and some even lump Atheists into their own numbers. And many Eastern philosophies blur the lines between where their religions end and where others begin, furthering muddying the issue.
The one thing that all of them seem to be missing is the fact that majority rule does not make something \"more correct.\"
Here\'s some more food for thought. If only one religion can be \"the correct one,\" and even with skewed statistics only 1/6th to 1/4th of the world is of any one religion (IE, two billion people, give or take), that means that the majority of the world is wrong -- no matter WHICH religion you decide is correct, the majority of the world is in the wrong.
It\'s all very interesting to me in a sociological sense.

ne of them UK types set up the poll. However there\'s alot of \"christian\'s\" in Canada. Religions that worship Christ (Christian, Catholic, Presbiterian? (sp) etc). Or whatever the requirement is. At least in the middle class white folk that make up my social circle. I\'d say around 2/3rds of the people I\'m friendly with have some sort of belief system they claim to be a part of. Less than 5% of that actually go to church on Sundays. Less than a handful of people I\'ve ever met have actually walked the line and followed their religions teachings, I\'m talking 2 or 3 at most. I can only think of one ATM and she turned into a sinner as soon as she moved out of her parents house. And one other guy who was a hari chrishna (omg, spelling?) but he gambled, ALOT, not sure if that\'s against the religion but I cant imagine it\'s embraced by it at any rate.
I dont think going to church and taking an active role in a religion means you believe in it. It seems to be more forced labour. A good number of the \"religious\" people I\'ve known clearly do not believe the majority of their religion. I mean, if you really believe in the teachings of your saviour and fear burning in hell fire for all eternity, you arent going to have sex before marriage or smoke pot or say \"jesus christ wtf was that?!?\" if it\'s frowned upon in your bible.
