The Bloodletter, the Terminator and the Pillar

Maybe it\'s just me but if the sword can cut through the harder exterior material of the storm shield would it not also cut through the wiring inside? Just thinking that the wires should be trimmed down a bit. Just looks a little strange to me. Otherwise looks absolutley fantastic. Can\'t wait for more.

P.s. for the terminator pic colours that contrast how you\'re painting the bloodletter.

You\'re right of course! It\'s not particularly realistic, and I\'ll probably trim \'em some a little, but not much - it\'s a cheap way of emphasising the slice I suppose ;)

Anyhoo, little bit more work on the base - now it has a bit of a surround for the pillar.

Joek,

This is coming along nicely. 1 small point, you have the shield \"cut\" by the BL, but it has wires flying about? If the blade were that sharp, as the fragment on the ground appears to be, wouldn\'t the wires have been severed at the same time? I know it is a small detail, but that is often what determines gold/silver/bronze. Best of luck with this project.

:) You\'re not the only one who\'s mentioned this. It\'s one of those suspending disbelief sort of things I suppose. A clean cut shield is absolutely right, but I just thought it needed something else. I\'ll certainly be trimming them down a bit though! I\'ll see how it looks at the end - if it doesn\'t \'work\' it\'d be no problem with get rid of them!

Bit of work on the pillar today - colouring it up a bit, but also adding one last column to the top, which - whilst falling - is collapsing in two. It kind of gives more emphasis to the idea that whilst it is a duel between the BL and the Terminator, the pillar is my third character in the mix.

Also, it\'s neutral - the top of the pillar could well crush both of the characters

In other news, the Bloodletter is now undercoated, and is awaiting the start of a paint job.

In other other news, I\'m still not clear on the colour of the Terminator. Having looked at loads of chapters, I\'m recently taken with the Flesh Tearers, but only in a 50/50 way.

Never mind. Plenty of time to work things out.

(Salamanders anyone?)

If your thinking of green, why not go for son\'s of medusa? seems a bit of a less common choice than salamanders and might make it stand out more. If your doing your BL in dark tones, the bright green would contrast quite well.

The overall theme and feeling is there.

You lost me when you added the top of the pillar and started to paint.

I find it a bit too bright and contrasty.
The stone almost appears to be blue.

Thanks for the crits.

I\'ve toned the blue down a bit, but I suspect the photo might be brightening things up a little. Still, it\'s fairly accurate, and I did kind of want a somewhat different stone effect going on (there are various washes of purples and dabs of green in there too).

I\'m going to hold fire now on the pillar until I see how the Bloodletter looks when it\'s in place.

Fingers crossed it\'ll all pan out ;)

Work on the Bloodletter - the blood from the jaw needs a lot more work, but it\'s all getting there.

Wooooo lookin\' sharp there. I love it!

The jaw could use a little more work, but it does look great so far.

How did you accomplish that excellent skin texture for that little baddie? I\'m in the middle of painting my demon army and I have a good handful of those guys to do. He looks spiffy!

Cheers,
Jake

Could do with some closeups with differing angles - what blood?

I\'d make the blood a lot darker than the BL\'s skin tone to make it stand out a bit more - if you\'re gonna do it normal blood colour it might not be too obvious against his red skin.

To be honest, the colour mix for the BL is fairly straightforward, but just requires a fair few rounds of highlighting.

Mecharite Red as a base
Red wash all over
Purple wash all over
Devlan mud wash on the darker bits

1st Highlight - Mecharite red
2nd Highlight - Mecharite red with Blood red
3rd Highlight - Blood red
4th Highlight - Blood red and Orange mix
5th Highlight - Orange
6th Highlight - Orange with some yellow.

Which sounds like an awful lot, but after the 4th highlight you\'re only doing spot highlighting so it doesn\'t take all that long really.

As for that blood - I\'m still working on it - it\'ll definitely be more purple in colour and then will definitely be having some gloss varnish coated on it. Hopefully that\'ll make it stand out, but I\'m still not 100% sure yet.

Bloodletter\'s almost done really. Might need to do a little bit more work on the \'blood\' bit, but I\'m fairly happy with the beast at the mo\'!

looks really good - don\'t know how I missed this so far. Idea is great and the excecution is even better.
I saw in one of the earlier pics that the thunderhammer looked a little off - conserning the angle he holds it - it might need a little twinsting.

Yeah, since that last picture the hammer\'s been twisted around a bit, so I think it\'s just about there!

EDIT:

I think the scene\'s getting there now. Termie still needs a fair amount of work before I can paint the bugger, but we\'ll see.

Yay! I was worried there for a second you know ;)

As a GD winner, and with a Marine, have you any suggestions on the chapter colours?
