Hey B,

I'm ging to answer your questions in reverse order... because I can! ;)

The IG are for sale- as soon as I finish the HQ Squad they'll be going up on Ebay... then I've got some Grey Knights lined up next.

The more I use Quick Shade the more I like it. It's definately going to become a standard part of my toolbox for gaming quality minis. I wouldn't dare use it for display/competition pieces, mainly because I want to control the color of my shadows for those.

The QS does provide protection for your mini when it dries, but as you've noticed it dries glossy. I am painting over them: my process is base coat, Quick Shade, matte varnish, paint highlights, matte varnish. You can paint directly over the QS, but I've found you have to be very precise or it will streak.
I actually did an official review of quick shade over at WAMP: http://www.wamp-forum.com/VB4/content.php?279-WAMP-Review-Quick-Shade-by-The-Army-Painter Army Painter responded with a note that varnishing over the QS will give you a better surface to paint over, which it does. I used Citadel matte varnish and it worked just fine.

I may have photos of the finished squad tonight-minus the bases... they'll take a couple days.

Well, the wait is now over. After having to reapply some water transfers and having to redo the brightest highlight because my matte varnish toned it down to much, the IG HQ Squad is finally done! I stuck with the same urban rubble look for the bases so all the units would show some cohesion. I'm really proud of the flag. The "Cadia" and "VIII" were done in freehand, but all of the smaller text is custom water transfers in 1 pt font. I also tried out something different for the rusted pipe. The original way I did it involved painting the rust color and then drybrushing the metal over that. I didn't like the results that much, so this time I used good old salt masking, which gave me an excellent pitted and weathered effect! A lot of work for a tiny part of the base, but well worth it I think.

I'll be starting an auction for all of my IG figures this coming Thursday. After a lot of thought I'll be starting them at the price I paid for the minis themselves. I need to at least break even on what I spent so I can keep buying more stuff to paint and sell. I'll post the auction link when the time comes. This is actually the first post of a WIP log for a commission I've just started, but I'm going to keep it in this thread because they're Imperial Guards and my client wants them painted exactly the same as my previous guards. He had a very specific loadout that I'm putting together:

- 3 Sargent with power weapon
- 3 trooper with flamer
- 2 team of 2 guys with autocanon
- 2 trooper with plasma gun
- 3 troopers with melta
- 13 guys (or more i you could'nt make less) with laser gun

On advice of a few people, and after talking with my client, I bought an IG battleforce box and he's sending me the extra power swords, meltas, and plasme guns to finish it up.

I've finished the assembly for the heavy weapons teams with extra set pieces for the bases, the flamer troopers, and the 13 guys with laser rifles. I'm holding off on the others because my cleint's had to mail me the bits to finish them.

I'm going to start painting them tomorrow. I found a Tamiya color that is a close match to Kommando Kahki which I'll airbrush on to save me some time.

I've been out of commission for the past few days thanks to a nasty but short lived cold. Thankfully I felt good enough today to get some more work done. I got in the extra bits from my client, so I was able to put together the 3 power weapon Sergeants, 3 melta troops, and 2 plasma gun troops. I've now finished all of the assembly and can get down to the painting. The melta and plasma troops were a challenge because most of the arms I had left on the sprue were too small for the weapons, so I had to get creative. I think they turned out pretty good.

I finished all of the basecoating on these guys, trated them with Quick Shade, and sprayed them with matte varnish. Now I'm ready to start on all of the highlights and detail work starting tomorrow. Here are a couple of choice pics from the squad:

I got another commission from the same client: this time it's to work on the command units for his army. This pic shows all the units, except that there are a total of 8 psykers.

This is just the minis after the quick shade dried and I hit them with varnish. I'll be doing all the highlights next. There are also a few places where the QS got wierd and blotchy on a couple faces, so that'll add a little more cleanup time.

My plan is to add in some extra color with washes before doing the highlights. I've actually already done that with the Commassar- his sash was hit with some Asureman Blue and his uniform was much lighter than you see now. I used Adeptus Battlegrey- the QS knocked it down a good bit, but 2 washes of Babab Black brought it to this level.
