The Competition!

Today, me and a friend of mine perused our way over to the local retailer Hillcity Comics, to meet/mingle with the local paint club. Everything is really cool, and relaxed. James was putting on a basing session, and I was painting, and doing some flocking, talking about the vampires im doing, we talked about Woodelves, Beastmen, daily life, and we also chatted about the new warbands rules. We are starting an ascensions league. :D

What this post is all about is the painting competition which is going to happen!
Yeah! No kidding?!?!?!
Now I don’t have info on; categories, who\'s in, the date the entries are due, or anything, but it\'s here, and all that is following!

I know im in! What do I need? Advice please! How do I prepare?
I hear the ancients used extreme hot and cold temperatures to hone the senses! How about performance enhancing drugs? Any of those? T.H.C, L.S.D, P.C.P? Do I keep on doing what I\'m doing? With the teacher strike, and my work starting in may, I have some time.

My planning until today:
After a GW Cave Troll (LOTR) (following the evy metal guide), which I am finishing the glueing on tomorrow, I am doing a dragon ogre which I had gotten in the ME7 event. I may enter him, to curry the favor of one of the judges!
Or finish up this vampire project and enter Melkhior and Neferate? Nefarate would be done in sheer silk, with purples and pinks, while Melkhoir will tote his black cloak, but with freehand grey swirlies (good luck) on the inside, to accentuate his madness!

The pressure is on me! :)

I\'d also like to add; I hope I\'m not spamming the boards up, with questions that are useless, or topics that are too personal. I\'m grateful to the members who are welcoming to new members. If anyone has beef, or anything, let me know, sinse im not very familiar with Forum etticate. I dont want to be a pain, and i\'d rather be quite. But i find myself here often. I do have alot of time on my hands right now, I enjoy whats this site has to offer, meeting members, I enjoy painting miniatures, and gameing, tabletop and otherwise. I understand I am posting quite a bit recently, but i am not sure if that is regular to the rythm of this site. would you let me know if it is not? :innocent:

hm one advice for you in future postings would be to try to focus on one question! :D

If you have any painting questions for the competition post it in Painting & Conversions forum. Be sure to add WIPs as well.

Well as for stimulants.. anything with caffeine and anyhing that stops the shaking from caffeine ;)

Coffee to get into active mode, then beer to reduce the shaking hands! :D

Other than that I don\'t really know what your post was about? :p

Oh, and most people seem to post very frentetically in the beginning. It\'s normal!

It\'s a noble but vain attempt to catch up to us... the ultra-freaks :D

As for the comp - I\'d say hold off and see what the rules, categories are before you make any decisions about entries.

I have several tins of coffee at my disposal, and a coffee maker. I\'ll have some cold ones n the fridge, to keep me on the ground.

I would really like to post in W.I.P. But at the time, as annoying and a shame as it is, i do not have access to the proper camera for the task. So I will not be posting any pictures up, just blurry webcam shots now and again.

Thanks for the advice.
I\'ll take note, and try to be less of a beastman.

Aww, crap, im nervious/restless.

Iv\'e found out the categories:
1. One fantasy Character on foot
2. One Character on mount.
3. One 40K miniature.

Here is what i think i am planning on entering.
Single Character: I am going to be doing Neferate, from the GW Vampire line, in sheer clothing (attmpt), pruples and pinks. If she does not work out so well, i may finishing touch GW Lutz im working on. He is most way finished, and looking quite vicious.

Character on Mount.
I have a melkhoir on Winged Nightmare. I am going to try and do a good job on him, and add something cool to his cloak.

40K: Now here, all i have is a choas terminator. Which i am sure can turn out quite cool, with teh correct scenery. OR, i may try to pull some stings, and get my hands on a tyranid, i\'ve had this concept in my head for some time now, and i think it is quite wicked.
Mr. Jeff Wilhelm had given me the terminator in an exchange, i may tote that for good luck.

I wish I had a camera for members to see, and post suggestions. I may try to find someone.

The entries are in the last sunday of march. Very soon.

This is such an awesome site. I will be sure to be browseing chaos terminators tonite.

I hear the ancients used extreme hot and cold temperatures to hone the senses!

That my be true, but whatever you do, do not, I repeat, do NOT swallow a length of string in the attempt to purify your insides. Also, if you piss off your neighbor (who\'s a writer) you better know how to play a wicked tribute to Stairway to Heaven.
(This joke is so obscure that I doubt anyone will ever get it. But I take my chances...)

@Mosch. I wasnt planning on that... I dont think i could figure it out one my own, wanna help?

I like those obscure jokes. ;)

I am doing some vampires myself, and happeened apon yours. I liek the buckle, it does look like real metal, and i like how you carried through the mutation. I gotta ask what book you are talking about, on your minis post.

Update

The contest has been postponed until May, due to the warbands league.

I found that a couple cold ones to start, some chocolate and cookies, and a couple packs of darts got me through the brunt of painting.

I am disspaointed that the competition had been postponed, this will give me time to really do a better job on the winged nightmare\'s wings. I may do a 40K Chaos Terminator, and try to find Neferata, if no-one tossed her in the garbage. :~(

So far I have my mount entry just about done, and my single character. More entries now, and we are now getting prizes form GW, hopefully. So this will be great fun. I think my chances of placing may have gone down the drain, but I remain confident in my evil minions. I think I will go on a posting vacation from here, and return once my competition is over with, hopefully the camera ordered will come in by then. :)

So that I can clear my Perker (See CMON Dictionary thread) identity by the time im a member. ;)

I\'ll still be lurking though, just not posting! :p

hmmm CMON lurker, could it make for a cool green? lol

The yoga purifying ritual of neti (clearing the nasal passages by pouring warm saline solution in one nostril and allowing it to flow out the other) clears the senses and the mind, far better than through the use of stimulants.

Get some sleep and take breaks while painting to stay alert.

Treat your body with care and respect and it will serve you well while you paint.:D

Geeess Marine boy. Are you Joking. There is nothing like the thrill of staying up till 3 every day for a week before a comp to get you minis finished. I dont think I could do it your way too sedate I like the adrenaline rush.

I am condiering adding static grass to teh Lahmians base, a desert grass style.

Worked long on Melkhoirs skin. His shoulder was botched though, some purple got on it, i had used many layers, thinner green layers in some eareas, bas elayer is brown, then a yellow, stronger in some bloated and sunken areas. I had thicker layers of green on arches and raised bony areas, and final layer were degrees of pallid flesh, and elf flesh over mant raised areas. He is amde to look magical, though his body is in a state of careless decay, as he has recently resien from defeat.
I\'m not sure what to do with the Winged ngihtmares wings.

I\'m pleased with the cloak somewhat, and the sword.

@MarineBoy; I gave the yoga purifying ritual of neti a go about, but I didnt work. The effect was undesireable, and I sugest that you never try substituting saline solution with a snot green/bloodred mix. :flame:

ps. The chaos Terminator I am doing is posted in W.I.P

Update!

Well, i guess this there update is a little delayed. I\'ve been ultra busy lately, and unable to keep up around here, things ought to clear up soon.

But here I post! I think there were 6-8 entires that made it into the competition. My Lahmian Vampire did not win. I don\'t know for sure if any other mounted entries made it into the contest, but that said I placed first with my Melkhior on Winged Nightmare entry! :D
He has been in the display case of my local retailer for 2 weeks now, and I\'m not removing him for another 2 weeks! :)

Thanks for reading, and your comments and advice guys. I\'ll have the mini in my gallery as soon as I decide they are fed up with me at the local store.

I know, I know, double posting is frowned on. Sorry!
