Helps if you take the first of two http://\'s off the url. :D

Heard them once or twice. Haven\'t entirely decided if I like them or not.

And am I the only one who thought this was gonna be a link to a mini of the Tim Curry character from Legend?

lol

The Dorkness

I think this lot escaped from the 70\'s in a time machine, but as Glyn doesn\'t like them they can\'t be all bad:p

OK I fixed the link in the original post, so no need to post another link. Sorry about that. :bouncy:

Theres nothing wrong with the Darkness. I don\'t particularly like them but the children of rock must all get behind something or hip hop is just gonna carry on being its racist, sexist, twatist self that every kid listens to.

You are right....

But I don\'t see Justin Hawkins appealing to the crowd you are on about....not in a million years:flip:

I hope their using their image as a kitchy joke, because if it\'s serious, then they\'re stupid. If not, they\'re marketing geniuses! But about the songs: \"Thing called Love\" reminds me of Strongbad sucking helium.
\"Welcome to the high voice creeeeewwww..\" :p

\"Twatist\"? I assume that means talentless, either that or there are some bands out there singing about nothing but twats...:bouncy::flip:

Saw them live earlier in the year, thought the live show was awesome (especially as they were playing at 11am at a festival to a crowd who obviously hadn\'t heard much of them).

The music itself is indeed a throwback, and nothing new, but its catchy and fun and reminds me of being a teenager again.

They maintain that they are serious, but I reckon they did it as a joke, then when they became so popular in the UK they sensibly deceided to loose the \"joke\" tag (because lets face it, how many piss take bands last very long?), and pretend to be serious. I don\'t realluy see that as a problem, there are many bands out there that present an image just to sell records (one of the best examples is a journalist called Brian who wrote a book on using shock tactics to sell records and now heads up a little band called Marilyn Manson... and he\'s certainly not the first, Alice Cooper is still churning out records over 30 years after starting out)

I guess the real test will be if they maintain their popularity with the second album, or fade into rock history...

Well, first of all, I dunno what shit you are listening to (most likely crap MTV advertising blog redundant stereotypical rap), but there is a fair amount of rap out there that has nice lyrics, beat, etc, without being racist, sexist, or \"twatist\". Look around....If I listened soley to rock on MTV, young teens playlists or whatever, I\'d be as prejudiced against it as you are to rap. I mean, how many times can you listen to Sum 41, etc.? I\'m a fan of all kinds of music. I\'ve got a a playlist full of ACDC, Led Zepplin, Metallica, The Beatles, Steppenwolf, Steve Miller Band, Tragically Hip, Pharcyde, Blackalicious, Jurassic Five, and a bunch of random rock/rap. Variety is the key! :D

EDIT: And how the hell are they racist, pray tell? You mean against whites? Bah, we can dish it out plenty, but we can\'t take it. :D

Heheh, that was a bit of a rant. :)

Anyways, I think the Darkness are okay. The only song of theirs that has really stuck around on my comp however, is \" I Believe In A Thing Called Love\"....Gotta love singing along to his screechy wail. :D

You can\'t spell crap without rap!

Nawh. I do have a lot of problems with gangsta rap seen on MTV. However, bands like Gorillaz and Outkast I appreciate because they\'re comfortable enough with their talents that they don\'t simply create the same music over and over again, but actually experiment and allow themselves to try some new things.

Great stuff from the Darkness but it seems that they may already have slipped away into oblivion. Not heard anything of them for a while now. Hope they do manage a second album. It\'d be interesting to see if they take things in a different direction.

I\'m with Nelson on the whole music thing as well. Variety is the spice of life (or some other such bollox). Nothing worse than only liking one type of music. That\'s like being a GW fanboy and voting \'1\' for every none-GW mini on CMON! Over the past few days I\'ve been listening to The Streets, Megadeth, Moby, Celtic Frost, Atari Teenage Riot, DJ Format, Goldie Looking Chain, and lots of other stuff.

THE DARKNESS !!!!

Yeah, I love the Darkness, I was at their very first German concert, they´re awesome, I think they make great fun. I´m a fan of ACDC, Metallica, Led Zepellin, Guns\'n\'Roses, Aerosmith and Scorpions, and the Darkness is finally a band in the good old tradition, unlike the usual crap you get nowadays . Rap is horrible i think, it may be okay as dance music if done properly (like Usher´s \'yeah\')
but I couldn´t listen to it at home.
Ozzy should join Justin hawkins as \'The Prince of the Darkness\' lollol

Why do you say they \'slipped into oblivion\' - their new album is almost finished and they´re giving two more concerts in Germany this year (03.07.2004 at the Rheinkultur in Bonn and 13.08. at the Highfield Festival.)

Just haven\'t heard much of them for a while. I think we all wondered whether they were going to have any kind of longevity or just be another novelty fad. Hopefully from what you say they are going to stick around a while.

I\'m not a massive rap fan but there are things I do like.

God, do I hate them. I waited patiently for 20 years so people would grow some taste and stop listening to Queen, and now they are reincarnated as these crapdanglers. Oh, my head. I have to stop now or this rant will be10 pages long.
