The difference between paints

Hi! :)

I was thinking of buying a Vellejo paint set as I heard the paints are really good. Currently I\'m painting with Games Workshop, I\'m okay with the range, but I have the feeling I can\'t \'handle\' some of the colors. As Vallejo is said to have more pigment, this might be easier. I am wondering wheter it\'ll make a difference or not for someone who\'s painting less than two years.

The problem is, there are no salespoints who sell Vallejo, so I can\'t see what\'s the big difference between the paints.

My question is, what is the difference and what are your expriences with GW and Vallejo? :)

Thanks!

Pretty sure this thread was already started today.

A good suggestion is use the search funtion in the forums. There are probably 50 posts on what paints are best and why.

To not just re-direct you, I tried Vallejo for the first time just last week. They are quite a bit different from GW. The main thing is they are thinner with more pigment. Thus they go on in thinner coats and still coat fairly well. This means saving the detail on your model. Another advantage I found is they flow better and dry slower so were much easier to blend with.

The one issue I had though was that it took quite a few more coats to totally coat my model. I ended up using GW for the base coat and the Vallejo just for shading and highlighting. Also, because the paint is thinner the overall coat is thinner and I found much more sucseptible to being accedentilly rubbed off. A painting rig is a must if you are used to holding your minis by say the base and the helmet.
