The Dwarf Throng Of Karak Ankor-A Painting Diary (Updated 8/2/07)

Hi everyone,
After buying a heap load of dwarf miniatures last year hoping to start a dwarf army, and only half painting 5 of them in a year, I have finally started on my dwarf army-The Throng of Karak Ankor. I will be painting 500 points at a time ( mainly so I don’t get disheartened looking at the 100+ dwarf minis left) I will be updating this post at least once a week with WIP’s and I will be adding the history etc later on as well. I have a lot of conversion and painting ideas I want to implement in this army, and am quite looking forward to getting to the more interesting ones. Up first I am painting the battle for skull pass dwarves, I will be using the BFSP dwarves as “fillers” to bulk out my units, as the details on them aren’t the best. My first WIP is a Dwarf Warrior from the BFSP box set, im using this one as a colour test, working out colours and basing for the rest of the army, he is nearly complete, with only his shield ( which I am yet to finalise my design for) ,eyes and boots to finish but apart from that he is complete.Sorry abut the pics, they were taken a little too quick, the rim around the chainmail is actually green. At the moment I’m not too sure about him, so all feedback is great.

I must say that it looks really good so far!
though I\'m not a great fan of that mini, but if you look at it for a while you don\'t care bout the mini. great work! :D I must say that I look forward seeing progress in this army ;P

If you can do an army to that standard you are sure to be the envy of everyone...;) Anyway, to reiterate what Larre said - it looks great! The flesh is particularly good, and the beard is great also. Good on you for detailing the wood grain on the axe shaft!

Nice bases btw... only just noticed them!

Looking forward to the next update aswell.

Cheers,
Tom

Aye, great stuff as always SirJD! The muted tones and metallics work really well. A whole army like this will be fantastic :) Maybe the front of the helmet could use a little more of a highlight, but that\'s the only minor thing I can see here.

Good stuff!

After I completed the BFSP warrior (last update) I realized painting them all to this standard would take a bit too long, so I have decided to paint the army a little more towards table to quality than display, meaning I will use this miniature as a reference for painting the rest of my army.

Sadly in the past few weeks I have not been able to complete much for the army as a few commission pieces turned about 3 weeks before they should have, and I also had a few ebay items to finish painting. When I finally got to paint my dwarves I got a little side tracked and started painting a dwarf which was not in my original 500 point list. I bought the old King Kazador miniature on eBay a week ago and decided I would convert him into a Rune Lord for my Anvil of Doom which I will be adding to my army later, here are a few early WIP pics of him.
