When asked whom they trust as a reliable source of information about the environment and the natural world, the public overwhelmingly looks to scientists for a reliable perspective. Teachers ranked a distant second, while government officials and business leaders tied for last place.
* Scientists 64%
* Teachers 15%
* Reporters 6%
* Government Officials 3%
* Business Leaders 3%
Now that scares the crap out of me. I wouldn\'t trust most scientists unless they can hand me the data that proves their viewpoint. And I effectively am a scientist.
oh well. Stuff like this comes up every few years. I remember the one time magazine had a european survey with true or false questions in which 80% said that \"Normal tomatoes don\'t have genes, only genetically modified ones do.\" was true.
Ignorance is only an issue in people that formulate government policies, or are in a position in which they need to make decisions, not in the average man on the street. Now if they did that sort of survey among politicians and got the same results I\'d be worried.
Thats exactly why you dont trust them! I presume you, like them, have been taught how to manipulate data (using statistical techniques) to prove whatever you wantOriginally posted by Hoblit

Yeah, I knowOriginally posted by Hoblit
I meant raw data prior to any \"Statistical modfication\" and an experiment that I can repeat and get results that compare.
Don\'t ever try that trick with anything that has \"liquid chromatography\" or \"flow cytometer\" in the name lolOriginally posted by Hoblit
Right up there with if the equipment doesn\'t work, hit it with a hammer. That way it either works, or it is now completely broken and should be replaced.
Woohoo! It\'s not call High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography for nothing. And then you still have to explain why the board needs to spend a few pula more million to replace the stuff. No, not a good idea at all.Originally posted by No Such Agency

I\'m an manager not a scientist. They don\'t let us near those nice delicate pieces of equipment.
my average day at work.
\"I wonder what happens if you do that\"
They do that, stuff gets sprayed everywhere, they change their clothes.
I say:
\"Well that was stupid wasn\'t it?\"
You get the idea.
What a stroke of genius!Originally posted by Dragonsreach
Don\'t forget the \"These are really dumbass questions, so lets screw up the answers\" strategy, that some people apply to street questionaires.
Not that I would ever do anything like that.:innocent:
