The Fellowship

Hello all!

Well, I\'m new to this site. My real name is Dennis and I\'ve been looking for a while on CMoN now.
I\'m busy with The Fellowship now (LotR), and I thought by myself, why not? So I\'m starting my first post with a WIP :D

I have already finished Boromir, and I\'m busy with Gandalf now. As you can see I did a lil\' different painting scheme on him, as I don\'t like the normal one ;)

Well, here they are, any comments or suggetions perhaps?

I\'ll try to update it every few days, as I have made some other WIP\'s in the past, but they went inactive ;) (hope this one will not)

Looking good, I see you have gone for the Breaking of the Fellowship set that is a nice set and one I have yet to do myself. I like the different colour on Gandalf not right if you are a Tolkien purist but it does make a refreshing change to see.
Good luck on this one especially with the hobbits when I did my fellowship they about sent me blind.
Lastly welcome to Cmon.

Looking good. Boromir is a fine job. Well done on managing to do something with the eyes, they are always tricky on LoTR miniatures. The only thing I don\'t like is the black in the centre of the sword blade, it looks to stark, a darker metal would probably be better.

Gandalf is also looking like he\'s going to be good too. It\'s nice to see something a bit different on him, especially when it is well balanced and thought out like this.

Welcome to CMON - and what a way to make an entrance too. Very nice looking minis you go there. Boromir looks great to me, excellent job.

I like the idea of making your Gandalf a bit different and those edges to his robes are screaming out for some freehand runes - not sure if that\'s what you\'re planning but I think it would finish them off nicely. The face is looking good but looks like some glazing would help smooth the shading transitions a bit.

I\'m definitely looking forward to seeing your progress with this and the rest of the Fellowship too. Great start

I rather like the high contrast highlighting on the faces. The colors on Gandalf\'s face are perfect!

...and welcome!

Looking great Dennis....

I love the robes...

The purists will just have to pretend today is Gandalf\'s laundry day.

Boromir looks good to me. Like it! Maybe the eyes are a bit to big.
I have some complaints about Gandalf. I really love the book (the films not that much) and I never read that Gandalf\'s robe had stripes on it\'s sleeve. He\'s wearing a simple grey cloak. For myself I\'m not to keen with it but other\'s maybe are^^. Looks good so far.
P.S. Is this the final base for Gandalf? Coz it looks so much different than Boromir\'s.

Well I like the way he\'s done Gandalfs robes. Keeping with the fluff but making him unique. Nice work so far.

Thanks all for the comments :D

I know that the real Tolkien fans won\'t like Gandalf much. However, this was my 4th Gandalf. And I don\'t like painting with grey that much ;) So I decided to make a little different one.

Often I do paint on the \'original\' way, but it depends on how much I like the original painting scheme. I\'ll show you my celeborn (it is finished now, has another base, but he and some other mini\'s are at our locol shop now).

However, back on-topic. I haven\'t had much time these days. I have finished his hands now, and painted al the metal. Also did the last touch on his \'sleeves of the inner robe\', although you can\'t see it good on this picture (minor detail).

I won\'t paint some freehand on those stripes yet ;) I\'m practicing freehand now on other minor models. But it\'s hard :)

And the base isn\'t ready. I always glue the sand on, paint it, and then start on the model itself. This to prevent paint from the base coming on the already finished model. Maybe I\'ll change the colour abit. But the grass etc will come after the model is varnished (sp?).

Thanks for the great replys!

I couldn\'t come on CMoN this week, denied or something.
Anyways, Gandalf is finished, will do the base later on, I don\'t want to do that now.

I wanted to start on Gimli and Legolas, but as I coated them, I figured I had some other ones left. So I dug through all of my mini\'s and found 3 other Legolaya\'s and Gimli\'s.
So now I\'m going to paint all 8 mini\'s. Any ideas for 1 Gimli and 1 Legolas to have a different painting scheme??

Photo\'s will come tomorrow ;)

Sorry, totally forgot to take the pictures..

Anyways, as I said, the Gandalf is finished, except for the base, but that will come later.
I only photographed 1 Legolas, the other ones are all at the same level.
I will start later tonight on the Gimli\'s
