The first ever SENMM mini?

Okay just came across a mini from Goatman while randomly voting. It\'s from back in \'02 and based on the info at the bottom that he added it sounds like this could be the first ever mini painted in SENMM.

Is this the case?

Here\'s the listing:

This one beats it by almost a year:

I\'m pretty sure it\'s the first (the first posted on CMoN anyhow)...

Hmm... odd they way they both describe it as something new to try. Plus the Goatman one notes it\'s a re-post, though I doubt its a year old re-post.

I had that Razheem in my Favorites for years, but didn\'t remember it was that old.

Funnily enough Goatman\'s version wasn\'t even the first Griffin spearman painted in SE-NMM:

I used to check out basically every miniature that was posted back then and I had a feeling that his wasn\'t the first but it took me a while to remember the other poster\'s name...

Wow that is odd. You know I joined the site back then, but I was so new that I just assumed that the technique had been around forever and I just hadn\'t seen it. Back then I had rated nearly every mini too, though somehow missed that 2nd spearman.

At the time Goodmonkey\'s spearman was either the #1 or #2 rated miniature on the site so I remember it well. I was blown away by it because I\'d never seen the technique used before. I think his SE-NMM was even more effective than Goatmans, shame he stopped posting miniatures here...

Agreed. That is definately a more effective mini the Goatmans. Looking at the Razheem now it looks so flat. It\'s odd the way the style has evolved.

The one SENMM that impacted me the most was an Eldar I think it was, in purples reflecting a city skyline.

Definately takes a light touch to be really good at SENMM. I can do SENNM but it\'s a little chunky. The examples shown above are exquisite.

that\'s petethemighty\'s :)

I think Neil Hodgsons Tau battlesuit was a kind of landmark for this technique.

Read honzas tutorial on the subject in the articles section. There he links to a Rackham mini that he think might be the first...

EDIT: he links to them in the description too.. seems to be at least two minis before him.

That Petethemighty one isn\'t quite the one I was thinking off... at least I don\'t think it is.

I\'ve never seen that particular CMON page. The one I am thinking off I think I saw in the Annual for the first time. May be the same mini though just a different picture at a different angle. At work so can\'t grab the book and check. Been a while since I have looked at it but I remember spending a ton of time staring in disbelief.

This one is in the annual:

I don\'t think this one should be left out as a good example of early SE-NMM:

There are some really cool examples here. I remember being totally blown away with that witch elf by kuromaru. It\'s a real pity that he doesn\'t post here anymore. I know that this isn\'t the first example of SE NMM, and I hope you don\'t mind Arjay, however, this mini like kuromarus \'witch elf\' also blew my mind when I first viewed it. It\'s also a great early example of SE-NMM (chrome style).

Check it out! http://www.coolminiornot.com/20274

Not actually NMM, but this blew me away as well:

If we\'re going to talk Arjay\'s stuff, this one looks the most chrome to me:

Hi Gilvan Blight, very nice example. I\'d forgotten how cool a painter Saxon Angel is. I remember how utterly impressed I was with that mini when I first saw it. The see through (ethereal?) sword is so convincing. He really pulled that technique off perfectly. What a cool imagination!

Well I blame Arjay for two things. with
<< this mini >> he got me interested in coolmini and started me on the road to attempting NMM and senmm. My life has never been the same. :D

btw Arjay do you give lessons. I have to go to SA for work so maybe while Im ther we can do a deal. lol
