just got an email off gw about the upcoming orcs and goblins stuff (no doubt like most of you) and coming from someone that has been slagging off the god awful sculpts that have been coming from them recently that giant spider rider is looking well pretty awesome

i had feelings of hope that they'd turned over a new leaf and we'd see more really awesome stuff...then i continued to scroll down the email and saw the boar riders well i'm guessing their boar riders they just look bad i dunno what's going on with them the bodies look ok then you get to the heads and it's like it has the main features of a hog but just doesn't look right almost like their deliberately trying to make them look like the piggies out of capcom's monster hunter series or other video games rather than the traditional cartoony GW boar which was very piglike in all respects

still i wasn't going to bitch that spider was awesome

I think the problem with the boars stems from the paint job. If they'd picked a far more muted color for the face I think it would have worked far better. Instead they look a little too pink and fresh. Then again I'm more familiar with Warthogs and not boars, so maybe there is a species that has such coloring.

The orks themselves don't look bad, but they don't look that phenomenal to me. I think it has to do with the well defined abdominal muscles. Just doesn't seem so...orky to me. They have a tapered Adonis type torso now. That's more of a personal preference though.

The Giant Spider looks...well pretty damned impressive. That looks like a great sculpt, and the paint job is pretty swanky. It looks like someone took a good long look at Chitin, and then did a pretty nice interpretation of it on this model. Not sure why the (I guess mandible?) bones are a different color from the other protrusions, but I'm not a spider expert and that may be accurate.

Damn that spider looks good.

I love the spider, now that's what I call giant.

I just hope it hasn't got to much of the platform crap on the back, so I could use the spider as stand alone.

Always annoys me with GW monster's they always mold the saddle or platform onto the main beast.

yeah the saddle thing is a bit crap. should ok to dremel off with the spider though. looks ace

as for the boars, they tend to have hairy faces so i think it could be the pj's:

Must admit that when I got the newsletter earlier I thought the spider was a special character until I saw all the goblins on the top and reaslised how large it was...

for me the savage orcs are the first orcs made that actually look mad enough to rip your face off! And that spider...Woah, makes the giant look tiny. the Base is almost twice the size of the hell pit abomination! The army book is a swanky hardback which i though was cool when i was flicking through it. It costs a little bit more but hey, you would pay more for a hardback at dymocks or amazon anyway so it's not without precedent. As for the boar, i think the size is just right, much more dynamic than the last boar model and the boar itself, carrying the orc looks like it has much more mass than a standard human and in my opinion is more of a mythical creature than a recreation of a modern day boar so i dont really feel that annoyed about it not having a hairy face or whatever.

oh maaaaan, must say after feeling much like "doh another orc, sigh..." lately this shit looks cool as hell. the spider rocks bigtime and those savage orcs looks totally mad and would probaly be badass with a proper pj.

I quite like some of them, but once again, studio paint job doesn't seem to be doing them any favours. Not sure when it was GW decided to use the most bland, comic book, terrible looking colour and method for Orcs, but you'd have thought someone would have had a 'hang on guys, these look pants' moment by now!

I have to wonder if the general look of the new savage orcs is going to continue. I like their more human proportions, less hunched, more green barbarian.

Am I interested?
Certainly not, after hearing that the New army book is going to cost £25. Hardback, really! Nah just more dead weight to me.

I have lost interest in GW over the last few months due to several factors, mostly concerning their only interest now being in draining wallets.

For those looking to use this without the howdah it appears for once GW have made it entirely optional.

I'm glad they finally went to plastics for savage orcs as they've always been a pain to collect in the metal miniatures.
But those boars just aren't right. The whole head looks wrong.
