Those boars look like they have half of a gas mask on their face. The painter and sculptor have made it look like between the eyes is a different material to the face skin!

The trolls actually look quite good which is suprising for a GW sculpted troll. The puking one is quite original :D

i think i like the troll holding the fish most, he reminds me of some creature in starwars i believe. boars are not gw's strong point....

i dont know guys... i think these sculpts are far superior from the old ones. although the orc boar warlord has a better boar imho. but this is better stuff than what they have made before. i mean they used to make those vespids. *shivers* lol.

The picture of Alf surprised me. I'd already decided that was what the boars reminded me of.

The trolls look fun and groovy though. Amazing what they're doing with plastics these days.

has anyone else noticed how much that gw has had a lot of sculpts lately that are very rackham inspired? especially these boar heads and the river trolls even more. thoughts ideas, trepadations?

Meh :(
Look like computer game characters. Perhaps the cartoony paint isn't helping but I'd put these in the same incinerator as the Minotaurs. Disneyfied bollocks that abandons 30 years of in house design & has decided to ride the coattails of WoW. I guess the young crop of GW designers all grew up playing computer games rather than wargaming. Much the same as the incestous flavour of their artwork nowadays. looks like kids who grew up copying GW art, with all it's flaws but none of the character or style & now churn out the same deformed rubbish week after week. I can't remember the last time I paid attention to a WD cover for more than a second or two before having to look away in disgust at the lazy composition & inept anatomy & perspective. God forbid they get kicked out of the studio & bother to attend a life class or two.

At least I'm not disappointed in these like the Minotaurs because I didn't bother looking forward to them. Thank the Lord I discovered the vast swathe of minis available through sites such as this one. Hard to believe this is the same company who released the Skaven just a few months ago.

Cheers, B.

PS I'm peeved 'cos I still care but they're squeezing it out of me, slowly but steadily.

PPS All sweeping generalisations should be taken in "rant" context, no need to defend your favourite piece! :)

the river trolls are based on gw artwork and look quite cool in my opinion.

Too cartoony... The boars are especially bad, and the trolls aren't much better. I agree with BPI, it's just a bit too WoW-ish. They all just look like they are made of plastic. I guess all of their releases can't be great, like the Space Hulk and the Skaven releases, but if this is going to be a new trend..... ><

Those pumba's look really silly. GW is changing everything new into mini's without actual detail. Remember the ogres? Their muscled arms look great, but the muscles on the orcs are way to deep while the rest where they should have muscles is flat.

Do like the trolls though, although they're more of an aqua monster pack.

I think the results of a new paint job will show these kits to be satisfactory. Same with the Minos and Pumpagor.

Who's been the studio painter on these?
I think they need to tighten up the shading and transitions, the longer and more used ones like you see in these and the past few Beast kits gives it that cartoony look. While probably not an easy process, it doesn't exactly flatter the models.

The few I've seen in person look better with a less advanced technique and a darker tone.

ugh. more garbage. i am sooooo bothered by GW's recent trend on making monsters fat with short legs and heads that protrude. they look like lumps with nice details - decorated turds.

The orcs look way too big for the boars IMO, although I do like the trolls, even with their freaking huge hands...

Im doing a night gobbo army soon I think, so the trolls may appear on my painting table at some point.

Those boar boys are alot better than the original ones. It is about time that unit gets an update. I am not sure about the swamp trolls though. I cannot decide if I like them or not. I would like to see an updated stone troll unit, that would be nice. Even though I do love the old ones...
