I've been thinking a little more about why I don't like these. After all, there's no point commenting if I've just become a GW hater!
I think the main thing is the lack of threat, exacerbated by the style of paintjob. The Warhammer world always had a big dollop of grim 'n' gritty about it. Lots of dirty, bloodstained, freakish creatures murdering each other on the battlefield. Chaotic cults twisting the world intop horrific shapes around them. Small villages under constant threat of murder at the hands of seeming saviours. Comedic elements sneaked in but were often vulgar & aggressive, or subtley hidden to reward the close examination of a couple of figures within a whole range.
Those new Boar Boys look more as though they're dancing in formation & are about to break into song, the chorus of um-pahing trolls in chorus behind. They don't look dangerous, or scary, or as though they come from the same world that Death On The Reik was set in.
In essence, they look too much like Happy Meal toys.
Cheers, B.
