greetings gang,
man, i saw an e-bay auction today that blew me away. this guy get\'s jason\'s richards powder blue Grey Knight lord that closed recently. he\'s turning jason into gw for pre-selling the mini, i guess. so it looks like gw has gone nuts and wants to kill off what ever they see fit.
i don\'t sell as much as i used to, but to some of you who do, this smacks of an artist being screwed. i dunno, just couldn\'t let this go by. you decide, here\'s the link:

Makes me wonder why you\'d buy prereleased models anyways. If you\'re anyhitng like me, by the time you get to it, it\'ll be out all ready. And if you do paint it quick, you might be rushing the job. I don\'t see why a GW guy would buy their own mini back anyways just to sell it again.. Strange.

I\'m glad you brought that to our attention. What concerned me the most was that Jason Richards may be getting double-screwed....after all, the pics used in the auction are his. I emailed him asking about this-bascially, if those were used without his permmission, I figured it was only fair that he be told about it!

This IS screwy.

This guy needs his nuts cut off... Fast.

Kind of arrogant to put that in his auction. Never mind that Jason\'s own pictures are being used. Holy Smokes...:flame:

What\'s really disgusting is that people are bidding on this A-hole\'s auction, despite what he said he was doing. What a dick.

DOH!

Sorry for the blank post. Was trying to type on two screens at once!

This whole affair sounds really quite bad. Ok, I\'m sure folks buy stuff and sell it on again all the time, but to just use the guys actual auction, that\'s really tight!

Really makes GW look a bit like the Big Brother.

Someone did that to me once (but not with a mini). They used my description and my pics without permission. I reported it to Ebay and they ended and removed the auction almost immediately. Probably the best option.

he sounds dumb

First off, he bought it to show GW their stuff was being sold?
How about \"hey GW, look at this auction of your pre-release mini!\" and save the cash?
What a moron.

I suspect he bought it, found for some reason he couldn\'t use it (local group won\'t allow, wife mad at the cost, whatever) and now he\'s trying to sell it back and he\'s mad at JR for selling it to him in the first place.
Dolt.

Evonine did the first post on my account so this is all news to me (Justin).

This is a really sad state of affairs but picture theft does happen all the time. One of my friends was scanning through our galleries and said \"Hey, some guy on eBay uses that Dark Eldar picture as his logo!\" And we still haven\'t figured out who it is/was. But we do actively target companies that have stolen our pictures.
For example, Heritage Crest: http://www.heritage-crest.com/ actually took every picture out of our 100 Kingdoms gallery, removed the copyright info and added their own. What makes it especially funny was that some of the copyrights covered parts of the miniature so it was rather obvious.

We emailed his legal dept and (I suspect coincidentially) his site went offline a few days later. Never got a reply but on an order with them he did the whole \"my emails aren\'t going through\" bit.

For us at least, this is a day to day battle and about once a week I email someone saying \"You have our pictures, you didn\'t ask to use our pictures, take them down.\" And most comply easily, others end up needing to have their ISP pull their website for non-compliance.

Ideally, we just need to be policing each other\'s IP here. If you do see someone using another person\'s pictures - drop them a line. Otherwise, you\'re encouraging the illegal activity. I\'m sure people would much rather get an email about a suspected illegal use of a picture and have it be wrong than to be profited off of unfairly!!

Oh and by the way - not sure if this is relevant but this particular buyer bought three groups of Valahllans off of me about a month ago and was very cool about it. I found it extremely surprising for him to pull this but fanboys come in all shapes and sizes I guess.

GW has known about the pre-release market for a long time... it\'s just good business for them to act like they didn\'t. As a retailer, you can get prerelease ... oh ... every Tuesday or something like that... if you put in an order over a certain dollar amount. When we were running a web store out of my dorm room, we\'d always order on that day of the week and sell the codex/mini on ebay for about 5x what it was worth. Ridiciulous :)

On the one hand, I think that all that fuss over a pre-released model that will be VERY WIDELY available in a few weeks is absurd. It would be a very different matter entirely if it was a VERY LIMITED run or something similar.

On the other hand, this guy behaviour is simply bizarre (to say the least). If one is worried about the auctioning of pre-release GW models, one should notify GW, or buy in order to provide the evidence, NOT to get a refund. And BTW, I haven\'t seen such a ban ANYWHERE. It sounds like a pretty lame excuse.

Finally, using Jason\'s pics is, simply put, tantamount to stealing, IMHO. We\'ve seen auctions pulled out of e-bay recently for much less. What I don\'t know is whether it\'s Jason himself who should comply, or would it be enough if any of us did?

Re-reading my post I\'ve found I may not have been too clear regarding the pre-release status of the miniature. I meant that, nobody is fooled, IMHO: it is Jason Richards\' paintjob what is being sold, NOT the fact that the mini is pre-release, since it short order it won\'t be any longer...

Jason did say something to the point of \"don\'t worry about it, I\'m in contact with him and it\'s okay.\" I\'m not sure what the arrangement is exactly but apparently he doesn\'t mind... so everyone drop your pitchforks and torches :)

Thanks for the laugh....

Incredible!!! Thank you for the link to the eBay auction, I\'m still chuckling!!! I can\'t figure out who is a bigger tool, GW for getting angry or that prick who bought the mini and now is trying to sell it. Remember that they are only minatures, toys for God\'s sake, they were meant to be fun and enjoyable. I think that if ANYONE is upset over this, they have an extremely warped view on what is important in life. If I\'m missing the something really important, please feel free to explain it to me. Of course, that\'s just my opinion....

what\'s all the hubub, bub?

Well, I have visited this thread several times, and I am not understanding what is happening.

Here is what I do get. Some guy buys a Jason Richards pre-released miniature to prove to GW that this happens. He uses Jason\'s pics and text.

What I don\'t get is why the original posts states that GW is \"going NUTS\" or the GW police are out to get us.

Where, in that auction, does it indicate that GW even gives a hoot? The 2nd seller seems to be ratting on Jason, but does GW care?

Please somebody help me understand this, and talk slow, I am getting old!!

???

I think people are just overreacting honestly. But in related news...

For those of us protesting GW\'s decision, think creative.

I probably should have listed it Featured, but all the same, this is a pretty good .65 protest
