The Harry Potter book has arrived!!!

Originally posted by vincegamerperhaps you meant Lewis Carol? C.S. Lewis was raised Christian in north Ireland. From roughly age 16 to age 31 he professed atheism, but then he apparently had an epiphany on a bus and decided he had to acknowledge a God. From then on, all of his writings revolved around Christianity.

Ah, it\'s probably due to his \'youthful indiscretion\', and some mention of it, that I was under that impression then. I have not read any of his work.

About Harry Potter - I also had a little trouble digesting the end. It all seemed so... unfulfilling. 652 pages of drivel and then... THAT?! I mean, throw us a bone, willya Rowling. That\'s what we\'ve come to expect, lots a mindless garbage in the middle and then a big (good) payoff in the end. That just made me not want to read the next one. If you wanted a dog to come back for more, would you POISON it\'s dog-food?! It just left me with a bad taste in my mouth... :(

Not sure what you mean. It cleared the way for Harry to do what he has to do in the next book. I don\'t believe for a minute that what we saw was \'true\' - at least not that everybody was who they appeared to be.

:D

Pretty sure it was exactly what it looked like.

All I meant was I usually feel good at the end of a Harry Potter novel. This time I felt REALLY BAD! :(

@Dr.Sanch - If you are like me and put all the clues together then you know who took the Horcrux in the cave. He obviously has his own agenda and is on no-one side but his own. He has protected both students, which is a little odd... makes me wonder about their mums... ;)

Edit: About the page count; yeah, mine\'s 652, I just double checked. Maybe that\'s what happened when they translated it to American? ;)lol

Well, I\'m trying not to spoil it for any one who might not have finished the book yet. I don\'t believe the killers were who they appeared to be.

Nah, it was definately him. Rowling put too much emphasis on a certain person\'s trust in him, and he never really liked that person to begin with. he only sided with him because Voldemort killed the only person he ever loved. There is now a \'third\' side in all of this, someone who is neither good nor evil, just wanting revenge. However, he does have some sense of honor, upholding his promise to one mother and not harming the son of the only person who was ever nice to him...

Think about all the background in Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry\'s father wasn\'t exactly a wonderful person. Then put that together with the background in this one surrounding Slughorn. He had two favorite students, both brilliant in the use of potions. You\'ll start to see that there is someone much more dangerous then the amarol megalomaniac Tom Riddle. ;)

I just can\'t see that trust being so badly misplaced, is the thing.

And the sudden reluctance of Malfoy doesn\'t wash for me, either.

At any rate...I hope she hurries up with the next one. :)

Any theories on R.A.B., or the Horcruxes?

Well, I\'m not certain, but Sirius\'s dead brother, who is mentioned a bit, is called Regulus Black. I\'m not sure on his middle initial, but R.B. is pretty damn close to R.A.B. It makes sense, too, because he was previously a death eater, hence calling him \"Dark Lord\" in the note.

Any other theories?

God, I feel like such a nerd. :( :D

Good catch, Nelson. Hadn\'t thought of Regulus. Do they ever mention his middle name? There was a lot of stuff about Sirius\' family in the fifth book.

And yes, I feel like a nerd too...but that\'s ok. I\'m used to it. I play with toy soldiers, for goodness sakes!

And even if the trust wasn\'t misplaced, and the person was trustworthy, they were under the influence of an unbreakable vow. Perhaps the revulsion on their face was for the act they were being forced to perform? They can\'t really be blamed for anything, except for accepting the vow in the first place. After that, it was too late to change anything.

And nope, I couldn\'t find anything on Regulus\'s middle initial.....I just kinda re-skimmed through the fifth book before I read this one, but other than his name, and the fact that he was a death eater, I didn\'t catch much.

NerdsAreUs!

Damn. I forgot about the initials. Now you got me thinking about who was who at the end there... they did make a big deal of Malfoy obtaining Polyjuice, and he was acting rather un-Malfoyish toward the end there. Also, The murderer did go out of his way NOT to harm anyone else. So you guys don\'t think that was Dumbledore, or do you think Malfoy and Snape had switched places? And was R.A.B. even there? And if so, who was he? ???

So many questions... Rowling, you biotch!

lol:bouncy:

I believe that Malfoy and Snape are switched. How they got Snape to transform, I\'m not sure. There\'s also the matter of Snape\'s ease in handling Harry\'s attempts at hexes during the chase - but Harry wasn\'t necessarily thinking clearly or at his best.

As for RAB, the best thing I\'ve heard so far is Nelson\'s guess, which seems to fit. If it is Regulus...then how much you wanna bet the missing Horcrux will be found somewhere at Grimmauld Place?

well, there is always...

Ape-Snay has clearly not switched sides... The whole sequence near the end while he was deflecting spells he was still teaching Potter. Read it carefully.

DON\'T READ THE NEXT LINE IF YOU HAVEN\'T READ THE BOOK... e-Thay ead-Day Uy-Gay will still appear in the next book, in exactly the same way his predicessors (sp) appear in every book. But he IS dead. There was still a good reason behind it. Part of getting snape close to Voldemort. Plus he was old, unwell and had no fear of death. Also remember, before the unbreakable vow, Ape-Snay had a chance to slip Narcissa a potion in her wine - read it again-lots of outs.

On another front, I have always enjoyed Rowling but her writing never had any depth until now, wherein she adds real world analogies. Even though it was completed before the recent attacks in London, she certainly gives this a feel for a world at war against hidden enemys that strike at their leisure. And the ministry arrests people and carts them off without trial to an island prison. She is certainly growing as a writer.

I still think ape-snay (lol) didn\'t so much switch sides, but rather is acting on his own side. Dumbledore trusted Snape because of how guilty he felt over the death of Harry\'s parents. But that was Dumbledore\'s downfall, Snape gave Voldermort the information so that HE WOULD KILL HARRY\'S father. He hated him! Voldemort\'s mistake was breaking his promise to Snape to not kill Harry\'s mother. If you recall, Voldy gave Harry\'s mum a chance to get away, something very un-darklordish. Obviously there was a deal struck, and snape thought that he would wind up with Harry\'s mom. It said in an earlier book that she was friends with him, but he wanted more. The fact that his worse rival married the woman he loved drove him over the edge and he became a deatheater. I have a feeling it\'s gonna be Snape killing Voldemort in the end, Harry simply doesn\'t have the power. It will be a cliff hanger, with Voldemort just about to kill Harry with the Deatheaters looking on, and then Snape changing sides AGAIN just to exact revenge on Voldy.

after the two cambatants lay there, one dead and the other close to it...

Harry: Why Snape? Why did you save me?
Snape: (sneering)It wasn\'t for you, Potter... (cough) it was for Lily...
Harry: For my mother? But... you saved me!?
Snape: (gasp, choke)That\'s because Potter....... I AM YOUR FATHER!!! ........................... (gasp, die)
Harry: {lifting his hands heavenward} NOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo!!!

lol:bouncy::flip:

I think you guys are onto something with Regulus. That would make sense, because Rowling can\'t possibly fit all those searches into one book. But if Regulus had been collecting them all along.... :D;)

Regulus Black sounds like a good bet on those initials. As for Snape i\'m still holding to it he\'s renounced the dark lord, he did what he did with Dumbledores blessing to prove to all the death eaters he was allegedly loyal to Voldemort. One of my (probably wrong) theorys is that the person who dies is in an impossible situation, Malfoy ready to strike and several Death Eaters who\'d love to kill/torture/capture him. He got Snape to do what he did to make it quick and painless and so the others wouldn\'t get him. As for Malfoy he\'s always been a bully and a nasty git but hardly a cold blooded murderer which is why he couldn\'t do it.

Weeee! Ok, i\'m sad, ran out to get it at 8 in the morning when it came out, hobbled into woolies to buy it nice and cheap, and finished it the next morning... heh. all I can say is.....Argh! And Sqeee! some things that were obvious happened, other things that weren\'t, and Tonks and Lupin? Fanfic writers all over the world giggled with glee..... I liked it, although as usual it takes her ages to get into the story, and all the action happens towards the end, but heho... I don;t want to give it away for anybody, so I\'ll shut up now, although i\'d love to go on in total fangirl way and rant and rave at/about certain characters and that rowling should make her mind up if they\'re evil or not..or just a complete £$^%&$^*

I won\'t comment on any of those almost-spoilers, Tammy - BTW, nice to see you again, you haven\'t been around much! - but I\'m reading it now, and Zora\'s reading it now, and I\'ll finish before he does!
lol

BTW, Tammy, love your sig!!! One of my favorite scenes. :D

Yeah, Not having internet at home does make me a bit infrequent...but that will all be fixed, since I\'m moving on friday, and I can happily have a broadband line in my room! Weee! That scene is good, just like the \'I\'ll leave you two to pollenate\'...that had me in stitches too :D T be honest, most of the series had good scenes and dialogue, sort of Josh Whedon(or whatever his name is) light, buffy snap dialogue for kids :) Ok, obviously \'The Kiss\' was the best bit, but I\'m just sad that way...only 5 months untill the Christmas Invasion.....and Tammy drooling over her telly set cause it\'s the lanky Scot playing the Doc..hehehehe....

Spolier Alert!!!!

Finally finished the book last night(wife and two kids had first dibs on it) so I\'ve been avoiding this thread till now.
1) Unfortunately, I \'knew\' it was AD who \'walked the mile\'. Stupid BBC radio \'leaked this 3 months ago. I was merrily driving home to be greeted by the newsreader, (it seemed,a bit too smugly for my liking) saying \"Odds on AD being the next character to die in the latest Harry Potter novel have dramatically fallen after a rush of bets were taken in the town where the book is being printed\".
I was livid. No \"Spoiler Alert\" or anything. Highly irresponsible journalism, shoddily masquerading under the banner of bringing us news. How many kids (and adults) would have heard that?!! It absolutely ruined for me what was probably the biggest surprise/shock in all six books.
2) I too concur to the Regulus Black theory. It always seemed that he agreed with the pureblood notions of the Death Eaters yet balked at the extremes they ended up going to and tried to make amends.
3) Say what you like about Rowling but like Pitynoman, I also had trouble sleeping after reading the end, even though I knew part of it. It\'s highly irrational but after \'growing up\' with these characters for the last 10 years or so, you feel a sense of attachment and thus loss. No other writer has ever done this to me.
I guess it\'s a good job I knew AD\'s fate else I guess I\'d be in some clinic now...

ps - some very interesting Snape/Malfoy theories guys...
