ok, with the steel NMM. you need to layer your paint, not drybrush. if you want to be a good mini painter, just stop drybrushing all together. What took me a little while to learn is that your NMM should have more shadow areas than it does light areas. Go to Jester\'s page and go under tutorials and look at how he does NMM, thats how I learned how to do it. Also, try some gold NMM on the sword handle. Hope that helps

No photo editing either, so crappy as usual pics.

Attempt 2:

Feral Ork 2 (for a far away diorama so screw the mold lines!):

Trying for a earthy dirty ork. Same with the shield. I have yet to do much on this guy.... I suppose color suggestions for center shield and fur?

Finally...
first robe attempt:

Add some washes, and reds. First attempt at red... done in power outage

The above pic is a little overly bright... but oh well again.

Any suggestions for his staff? I was thinking some gold NMM, and maybe a glowing staff point for some OSL...
Also, what more to improve the NMM sword? smoother blending? Its quite the small sword, so the blade was tough

updated::: well I haven\'t painted in FOREVER. break in the action, and injuries now give me plenty of sitting time at home... AWFUL pictures. I really should learn to take pics before paint. The shading really doesn\'t look right.

Question.. would glazing the NMM gold on the belt and staff in greens and yellows perhaps help make it... stand out more? I want a bright crisp gold, with dark shading though. Oh well, still a WIP, and the white specks are on the camera lense.

re-darkened cape. I intend to highlight less the 2nd try.

I wanted to do a sort of OSL Aura... sorta like he just cast a big fire ball, and is birght with energy. So I may do the top of his arms in orange, and glaze down with red inks, not sure yet though. Also, pondering what would be a good skin tone... he looks like a zombie right now

I like where you are going with your stuff (except for the mould lines there really is no excuse). The sword looks very good.

Update... a few things to add to this post...

1st... I agree about the mold lines on the orc... hopefully you haven\'t spotted any on the wizard (yet). I felt the mold lines were sanded, well enough, and I was grossly wrong.

2nd... Here are some changes to my photography... First picture is underneath a bar\\tube light (area lighting?), 2nd is with a 2nd lamp off to the right, and the 3rd has the lamp right above the camera. No photoshoping.

The yellow lighting, and focused bulb of the lamp, REALLY destroys my highlights and shading.

In reguards to picture one... The skin is incomplete. The NMM gold I am still unsure of, should it be shaded darker\\highlighted more? Does it need more yellow glaze? Eyes, I\'m unsure if I want just wild white eyes, or maybe a pupil... I want this miniture to look as if he just lit up the scene with some fire magic. The ends of the sleeves, I was debating whether or not to do free hand magma pattern, but I realize Silphid has done this, so I am straying from the idea.

The cloak, I wanted a deep black, so its glazed with red\\purple ink, and highlighted bleached bone for softness... I feel the bleached bone came off a bit sloppy, and chalky... yes?

RE-Highlighted Reds, touched up face, and cape.

Any room for improvement?>?? How is the NMM coming out? I\'m still not sure about his staff. I think I might lighten the top and then shade heavier.

Finally... attempts to find a basing color to match his bright redness. Looking for the color of the abyss.
