The Joys of Summer in the Country

Yeah, right.

I have a 5 acre yard that I just got finished mowing. Now the mowing isn\'t so bad, but what kills me is the weed eating.

It\'s 84 F with 74% humidity feels like 92 F, in other words it SUCKS.:|~

It almost makes me want to move to the city find an apartment so I never have to weed eat again.

I think weed eating may mean somethng different over there...

Are you talking about pulling up weeds from the garden, or something slightly more illicit?

Ha! Silly man......

...you\'re.....you\'re....gardening ??? lol

Tooshy looks to her right, out of the window at the garden below.... she can just see the tips of something fluffy and ginger and brown in the long, tall (very tall) grass. Oh...! It\'s the cats....honary members of the \"Fucarweh\" tribe. The cats pause, raise themselves up on their hind legs and think \"where the f**k are we...???\"

I haven\'t mown the grass for a while

A weed eater is a hand held machine, that is gas powered, that spins a plastic \"string\" around very fast, allowing you to trim grass and weeds around the bases of trees.

Weedeater

The problem is I have a LARGE yard with many trees, so that it takes me 3 hours just to weed eat. Imagine sweating profusely, your hands going numb and developing blisters from the vibration, and being covered from head to toe in grass.

Grass... who knows how long that\'s been on the ground, who know where it\'s been. :|~

I think the term came up down here because Weedeater is the best known brand of line trimmer, so naturally if you are using a Weedeater you are Weed eating.

Only in America could 5 acres be called a \'yard\'. Here in the UK, Estate Agents would call 5 acres a country estate. A yard is generally not bigger than 10ft square and fully paved or concreted.

we have small yards to. You have to remember louisiana is one giant fetid swamp.

There are towns that take less then 5 minutes to go through. You might be driving 30 mph.

Well, actually we own about 35 acres of prairie land that borders a main highway, we just fenced off 5 acres and called it our yard.
My family was big into banking and real estate and used to own well over 3000 acres but that has dwindled through the years.

Ehh, my dad has 10 acres, and we just kinda let the wilderness manage itself, ie. no watering, mowing, etc. quite a pleasant situation, really, as it requires no effort at all. Of course, it means cedar trees and waist high grass run rampant, and most common house plants either go feral or die after a couple of weeks, but hey, that\'s nature. Whadda you gonna do? :)

Now that you mention it...

My girlfriend lives out in the boonies...I mean her neighbors are right out of \"Deliverance\".
I expect to see Sasquatch in her backyard.
Anyway, one of the neighbors had a pig that would wander around the neighborhood, digging into peoples garbage, rooting up the yards, and so on.
Another neighbor get sick of this and one night when the pig is digging in his yard, shoots the pig and has a pig roast the next day.
This erupts into a feud, in which animals belonging to either family are shot on a regular basis.
I try not to go over without my Walther P-99. (40 cal. Pistol)

Now, I could care less if these people shoot each other, It would prove Darwin right, but I\'m not gonna stand by and let some jerk kill a puppy because it stuck a toe on his property.
