looks like you have some good things going on here, I think you just need to play around a bit and add some more shading and brighter highlights - takes a bit to get used to as it looks very different in the beginning.
Your metals come out pretty good as they are but could also bennefit from a few washes.
Not sure I understand the Terminator refference?
