My apologies to GW and enthusiasts, I didn\'t intend to put them down  .The Golden Demon is a really great contest that has pushed the level of the hobby higher every year. It is great for the hobby and should stick around in whatever format the company chooses. But, there are other competitions and I hope these will grow and challenge the hobby even more.

well put that man

You have our support vincenti, We can see where your coming from myself and my brother Olly have decided not to enter any more Golden Demon Awards, its not the be all and end all.

We have found this year the goal posts where moved for are Flag Ship painter Beau Townshend

This was the first year I haven\'t been to the GD for many, many years... and to be honest, other than missing out on seeing my mates, I didn\'t miss the experience! I\'m going to aim at getting across to the Euromilitaire next year (and obviously i\'ll try to drag Tooshy along!) as I am enjoying other manufacturers minis so much more than the GW stuff these days.

Adie, you are a top bloke, and the competition will be less of an event without you! I look forward to seeing you in Kent next year though :D (and preferably before then too!)

Take care all!

A merit system seems more like a school system, where everyone has the opportunity to accomplish, and the competition is against the judging, not against the other entries. Lots of people break the 10-second 100m sprint now. Only one person gets the gold medal.

Just a thought.

Maybe I\'m getting less competitive as I get older, so forgive me, but to use your sprinter analogy if 10 sprinters ran the 100m in the exact same time, the Olympics would give out 10 gold medals. The golden demons would arbitrarily pick a winner from the 10 even though they were all equally as fast. I think what Adi is saying is the (UK at least) golden demons have a lot of sprinters crossing the finish line at the same time.

thats a real shame as i would have liked to meet you again next time round never mind i guess i will have to go to other mini conventions/events

lol, that\'s what this thread is about - people not entering ;)

It\'s nice to know there is variety in the type of competitions out there. I know the \'historical\' open system...been an assistant judge at the MMSI Chicago Show, and it is a wonderful type of competition where you compete against yourself. And I\'ve judged for Gen Con Indy Painting Competitions for about 5 years now...been on both sides of this coin.

I think it\'s all a matter of what you choose for goals, and where you\'re at in the hobby. I stopped doing games day...wasn\'t interested in the game, and wasn\'t thrilled with paying that much for a competition and day with nothing to do. I have found other avenues for my hobby and am very happy with my choices. In the end...I\'m painting for myself, and I\'m the only one that can choose where my efforts go.

hi susan...
your participation in the indy judgin\' is greatly appreciated by competitors like myself...i really dig the fact that gencon is independent from the manufacturers...the fact that manufacturers get to have their own awards, and gencon it\'s paintin\' contest, all in the same con, makes it more rewardin\' for all involved...not to mention the fact that minis from all maufacturers are able to be placed side by side, and compete against each other is very liberatin\'...
you are a much more supportive, open-minded, enthusiastic judge than those i have run into at gd...
the fact that my captain stern was eliminated at the end, simply because he was grey, and irregardless of the quality of the paint job, was a hard lesson to learn... the fluff is law...love it or leave it...luckily i love it, so i adapt and overcome...now i just have to improve my sculptin\', and bring home a sword!!!

cheers

this was straight from the horse\'s mouth...jes said that grey knights are supposed to be metallic...that was back in \'04...maybe they have lightened up a bit since...
i\'ve been the last guy put aside so many times, i\'m used to it by now...i\'ve since stopped watchin\' the judgin\', but in l.a. everyone knows my style, so i get the reports anyway...
fourth place doesn\'t get any awards, but at least i was the first loserlol...been first loser quite a lot...i need to print it on a hat...

cheers

I’m sorry. But I asked a simple question. I asked it four times. Why is the friggin’ trophy so gross? Did they change it? What’s the big deal about the trophy? I live in South Korea at the moment. There is NO miniature gaming. Even the military guys have switch to historical board games. So maybe when a question is asked, there only needs to be an answer.

It was just a year later in L.A. that Thomas Schadle won silver with a grey knight squad painted in grey.

I don\'t know if Adrian has revisited since posting mate.

They haven\'t changed the statue, I don\'t want to talk for the man but I would assume he simply thinks a statue of a little demon is a bit childish.

@roger: i was there in \'05 too...jes was not judgin\' that year...different strokes for different folks...wish i had a picture of my stern to show, but he was a commission, and had to be handed over before i had a camera...
tom took home a boatload of trophies at the \'05 show...that was the same year that i took home a bronze with my inquisitor scale kal jerico...not the best pic, but he is on this page:

@buddha: can\'t really say why the trophy has been called gross...i think the daemon is cool as hell:twisted:...

And here you have said everything that was being put across about the first three past the post in each category \"PERSONAL PREFERENCE OF THE JUDGE\"

Adi, keep in touch it wasGreat meeting up with you for a chat in the bar and would have been even better if time had allowed longer.

Not sure if I will be in the country or not for Euro-Militaire next year and if you can push them to put it back to a different weekend other than the same as Games Day like it has been for the last two then even better.

Hopefully I will bump into you in the future for a beer and a natter.
