Salute costs £8 to get in, plus you get a fantastic free model and there are loads of other manufacturers there!!
i wouldn;t say fantastic but i agree that it\'s a great event and better vfm imo

Hmmm...not sure how many years you have been going, but there have been some excellent models. What I meant by my comment was, that considering its a free model, they are very good quality and subject matter - this years Mithril one or the St George and the dragon as examples :D

CLARIFICATION ?!?!?! NOS 2

The Saga of the Grey Knights justs goes to prove my point<PERSONAL PREFERANCE /INTERPRETAION !
It always appears with that judging system ,sorry to be crude but so many judges go into anal mode. The sadest thing about the colouring of G/Ks is that in the ASRARTES 2 book ,(which is a G.W. publication ),they are shown in BLACK armour ,or possibly a VERY DARK GREY.What more can I say .

Also ,EBBONBUDHA,the G,D staue is a 12 inch resin cartoon demon, which considering the average age of its winners is in my humble opinion a little infantile.Sorry I dont wish to be ungrateful but suffice to say not one of the ugly little fascists has a home in my house !

GOD bless ..................VINCENTI

Isn\'t the statue based on GW\'s demon that was on there boxes of paints sometime back in the late 80\'s? If I remember correctly the painting/drawing was fairly cartoonish.

And yes Squidders, someone have used a demon award (bronze) in a conversion. It became a piece of a chaos assault tower for fantasy.

That\'s exactly where it originated Mud Duck.
The statues are a little more detailed and slightly less cartoonish, but yes, it\'s basically the same nether-dweller.

I sympathize. I enjoy the hobby and I would like to see where I can take it. I don\'t like to stick to IP anymore and I can\'t even say I like too much about GW style. Humans aren\'t so thick and chunky! I promise! This year I was particularly offended. To spend nearly 200 hrs and be summarily dismissed because my work looked foreign is hard to swallow. Then I calmed and realized it is a business. They try to do right, but they still must, always, sell the product. I realized I will have to attend unaffiliated contests, like GenCon. It\'s funny that GW postures themselves as pillars of the hobby, but only if it is their version lol. I do appreciate Golden Demon, but I am realizing there is much more to the hobby. So, no more US GD - though it is such a good excuse to visit Chicago! It\'s not Paris, but there is a Bourgeois Pig and there is no Weiner\'s Circle in Paris!

If you want to both visit Chicago and bask in the glories of the Open System judging, then come to the show which started the trend 30+ years ago - The Military Miniatures Society of Illinois annual Chicago Show (The MMSI show is the weekend of October 10-12, 2008).

Yes there are a lot of military figures (especially 54mm), but there is also fantasy and sci fi to be found there (and I know of at least one fantasy entry being awarded a Gold).
