I've decided to bite the bullet and start my own WIP thread, it's only taken me about 4 years to get around to it. Hopefully it'll help me dip into those reserves of motivation i've been saving up for years and finally get the help I need...Actually thinking about it, i've only been actively painting for a year or under. Just conserving my effort...Yeah, conserving my effort...
Any which way i'm getting pretty keen on improving and upping my game recently, I find it helps when I have people to beat me with the proverbial newspaper and point me in the right direction.

Without any further mincing on the subject lets get started...

Firstly, this Guinea Pig Samurai by Darksword. I've been playing with this to try and work on NMM. This is only the 2nd attempt so bear with the dire job! I'd seriously appreciate any pointers to help with this so I can learn a bit more. The main point I had was with the front of the helmet. I figured i'd add more "gold" to it to break it up, it's just too dark and flat looking just now. How to apply this? Open to suggestions.

Secondly is this Wolfen i've decided to do for meeee. I'm so in love with Rackham sculpts i'd like to spend some time on, and keep the ones I bastardise. This one's a bit all over the place atm, a true WIP. I'm undecided whether I should tint the skin blue or keep it gray, i've been dabling with NMM steel on this guy as you may be able to see. Colours are pretty much where they should be, always subject to change and feedback though. In the meantime here's the current stage for your perusal!

Hi TBS, hurrah, another WIPper!

Pig pics are a bit small but the helmet looks okay to me (as a non-nmm painter). I'd get that circular device on the forehead done before worrying about the framing metal any further.

A touch of shading on the white fur immediately beneath the centre front of his helmet should help to set off the white reflection of the metal against the white hair. So that the metal really seems to gleam.

Have you considered pushing the eyes to a greener brown to compliment the red in the armour?

Wolfen - If you're going to have grey steel style NMM then definitely shift the shade of the flesh. Again, to help with distinguishing different surfaces (flesh from metal). Similarly you've got red cloth & red leather/enamel on the armour. Could do with either a differentiating surface technique (eg represent the weave of the cloth) or a shift in shade.

Nice clean work overall, just stuck at that frustrating mid-way point :) I like your highlight placements too (something I have trouble with).

Keep the updates coming :good:

Cheers, B.

Cheers!
When you say "shading" under the helm, you mean a gold tinge? Not sure what i'm gonna do with the eyes, everything is pretty much untouched apart from the "gold" and some Bits of armour. I was wondering if I shouldn't just give him human eyes...It'd either give him a bit more character or just look incredibly freaky...

The steel NMM thing was the exact reason I was thinking about tinting his skin blue. It does seem pretty hard to differentiate at the moment. As for the armour I kina liked the way it tied together since the sleeves and shorts/leggings are going to be black, I was considering differentiating it by maybe throwing a bit of freehanding on the plates in white?

And yeah, i'm a really messy bastard when it comes to WIPs I do the tidying up at the end lol! Cheers for the feedback ;) More food for thought.

Looking good on both the gold and silver, I'm on my 2nd and 3rd fig too with nmm and I tell you what that vein in my temple inflates everytime I try it, it's really alot harder than I thought it would be to put the highlights and shades where they are "supposed" to be t___T

*cracks whip* more paint!

yeah, i'm thinking about cracking on with the wolfen. somehow the camera worked ok on the rodent and pixelated bits of the wolfen. Ho hum, hopefully it'll fix itself next update. The rodent fetish is simple Skelly, they sell lol!

New WIP, a commission for Abbadon based on the Chaos termie lord. I asked the bloke if he wanted pics, and he does [who wouldn't tbh] So I decided to let you lot in on it too.

Some major headaches in putting some parts together, like the head and the torso and the claw and the arm but lets just say I used my genius to sort it out with a little help from green stuff.

AB4.jpg
Had to sculpt on the back of his head since it was flat, didn't languish on it but did just enough since you won't really see most of it.

AB5.jpg
How it fits, had to have him looking off to one side. Figured that'd work best since the top knot doesn't offer a lot of leyway for space. Had to GS the cavernous housing too to make it sit nice.think I got it.

AB2.jpg
this claw gave me some headaches, never noticed the claw part itself had over half a bloody elbow pad on it, had to sort of amalgamate the "hinge" with the arm. Which I did do with the help of patience with a scalpel and some GS. It's only after, however I realised I photo'd the wrong side... Ah well.

AB3.jpg
this was just easy and compliant, the way it should be!

Anyway need to wait for that to cure so I can wash the oil off the GS and get to pinning the arms and what not, and then the painting commences...

When I read the title I was expecting thrilling tales of adventure, drama, and not to mention various obscenities. Looks like its just miniatures. ;)

Love that little hamster dude. The colors for the gold are spot on and the blending looks fine. I think the part that stands out to me is that it looks too dark. The highlights are primarily concentrated on a few edges rather than the surface planes... so I would up the ratio of lights to darks, so to speak.

Cheers Matt, yeah that's the thing that was bugging me the most on that. Think i'll have a sit down and eck it out a bit more, the dark just doesn't look right. I'll get there in the end with guidance though =D
