I bet GW\'s going to update the sneak peak section just so it can shuffle all the links...

I love all the minis! But I think the witch king\'s weapon is too big. I can\'t wait for the mumak!

It looks great, but i still can\'t help but feel a bit dissapointed about the troll, more cooler trolls run amok in the movie, with full helmets and stuff....

Well I have to say that I\'m really disapointed with the witch king, they could have definetly found a better helmet. He looks kind of stupid that way.

cave troll

The cave troll is head and shoulders above the other minis.

I mean that literally as well.

And when I say \"literally\" I mean \"figuretively\" as well. As in the figure is literally head and shoulders....

(i can certainly talk myself in circles!!)lol

The paintwork on the army of the dead looks a bit strange, but it\'s a relief they haven\'t gone for the transparant green look like with the necrons :D

I like the Witch king helmet, looks cool in the film, the mace is a little big for my tastes though.

I thought the army of the dead paintjob was a great attempt to capture the look in the film.

Yeh, me too, I think they managed to capture the ghoslty look reall well. Urgh, imagine them done in the necron green plastic! Now that would look terrible.

Technically, Tolkien describes the Witch King\'s weapon as a \"mace\". In the movie (and this mini) he actually wields a flail. Not a big difference, although the weapon in the movie did seem quite unwieldy when used by anyone smaller than a troll. I guess the Witch King, believed invulnerable by all, could afford to carry a weapon with more scare than practical value.

I guess it\'d be an easy conversion for the Tolkien purists here to \"fix\" this.

I didn\'t mean the army of the dead doesn\'t look good; it does, it just looks a bit strange (of course an army of ghosts of the dead should look strange!).

I\'d really like to see how people on CMON will be painting them.

How about glow in the dark paint for the army of the dead?
*Shudders*

I must admit that the concept of painting these is a bit daunting. Expecially in consideration of the excellent CGI in the movie.

I was considering making some army of the dead guys out of clear resin, with a small amount of green pigment added in (not much mind, I don\'t want some flurocent green blokes walking around, just a hint of green)

Anyone know how I can do this (making molds and stuff)?
(I know that technically, making molds from GW minis is illegal, but I\'m not going into business doing it, so I don\'t think they\'ll send teh Justice Squad after me;))

White Dwarf

In a White Dwarf from about a year ago, there were some \"spirits\" painted to look as if they were glowing with a greenish light.

I liked the look very much, maybe they would work well for these new Army of the Dead fellows.

I\'ll do some digging and see what issue it was in....

It was issue 279.

Here is a link to a thread that i posted about basically the same thing:

Reminds me of some other white dwarf issue in which someone made cast of the Balrog with clear resin, painted it and then put a light in it so it really glowed. That wouldn\'t be possible with the dead army though.

Why not? That one guy they deatured in white dwarf lit up the eyes with LEDs of every chaos marine in his army (plus dreads and tanks!)

When I started with Chaos I wanted to do that too :)
It might be possible, but the army of the dead would be totally transparant, so you\'d see the LED\'s.
(maybe a LED underneath them would work...)
But clear resin and painted with ink would make them look realistic enough, I think.
